I wanted to check on the father to see who his father was. I checked the 1870 Swedish Census on a subscription site but Bysk parish isn't completed yet on that database.

What is the source of your information that John Ekenstedt was a medical doctor and that Hugo was his grandson?
Research can be done using microfilms and also on the subscription Genline site, assuming that the records you need are scanned onto Genline. They are not finished yet with their scanning and will stop about 1895, I think.
Assuming your family joined a Swedish American church or had an obituary in a Swedish-American newspaper or are otherwise in the extensive records of the Swenson Center, I suggest that you check out their records. The Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center has a website but their records aren't online. Their records have solved many of my research problems, such as where ancestors were born in Sweden, when they arrived, their full Swedish names, birth parishes, what they did after emigrating, etc. Their church records aren't as extensive for Canada, however.
http://www.augustana.edu/swenson/ I too would like to visit Sweden but I hope to have time to be outdoors, out of an archive. I would like to visit some archives but I want to see the country and visit people too. It is not necessary to go to Sweden to do the bulk of your research.
The guidebooks Cradled in Sweden and Your Swedish Roots will make reading these records much easier for you, and there are excellent online glossaries and guides to the Swedish parish records on SweGGate and Swedish Roots and other sites.
