En fråga från Lorna Nelson Lindsborg Kansas
Mr. Jack Carlson of McPherson, KS is trying to track his grandfather's family in Sweden. His grandfather was Charles Carlson, he lived in Concordia and Simpson, KS. He is trying to prove (or disprove) that Karl August Karlsson, b. 22 Jun 1873, Risinge, Östergötland, Emigrated Mar 26, 1901 from Sundkerstadängen, Vånga, Östergötland was his grandfather. We found this Karl August Karlsson on Emibas database.
Review of research so far:
The American family had a birthdate, 22 June 1873, but no other information, and there is no American church record. Just an odd word ‘Skarlezka’ , not a real place in Sweden, listed in his obituary.
Swedish genealogist Kjell Andersson, of Colorado Springs, CO, looked at this information and found some places around where Karl August Karlsson lived that partially match this odd place name -Skävinge (modern spelling Skervinge) & Skärblacka. Skärfvinge is about I mile from Risinge Church. Vånga is about 7 miles from Risinge. Skärblacka is situated about 2 miles from Vånga.
So, we think, 'Probably him' but not completely sure. And, of course Emibas is 80% of emigrants not 100%.
Birgitta Andersson, of Norrköpings Stadsbibliotek also looked at this also & said to check of the records in Vadstena archives to see if this son was listed in estate records as being in America, but there was no luck there-no estate records for the parents.
So, Mr. Jack Carlson here is still searching for positive proof or a link to show that Charles Carlson, b. June 22, 1873 in Sweden, and lived in Kansas, is actually Karl August Karlsson, born 22 Jun 1873, Risinge parish, who emigrated to America.
Now we hope to track Karl August Karlsson's brothers and sisters' families in Sweden to see if there was any contact with with the brother in America that might make a positive ID. Birgitta Andersson started on this as you can see below. Kjell Andersson also checked that no one else in the family had emigrated as of 1915.
I thought perhaps that with an inquiry on the message boards that Mr. Jack Carlson in McPherson KS is seeking more information on on the families of Karl August Karlsson's brothers and sisters below, he might be able to connect with some of this family and finally know one way or another. Or, he might never know.

I suppose one might also be able to find a connection through the parish offices or through the local or area genealogical society. Maybe you can know better how to reach them.
