I am trying to find the link between the Lindquist family and the Anderson family.  Carl Lindquist was born in 1858 in Sweden. Came to the USA and settled in near Worcester, Massachusetts.  His wife's name was Anna. They had four children, Anna, Blenda, Bodle, and Stewart.  The Anderson family is listed under Andersons who left in 1881 and 1882.  The Lindquist's somehow tie into this family.  Maybe via the Jonsson family, which is under both Anna Adele Jonsson and again under August Jonsson.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Debbie

It is not easy finding people in Sweden unless one knows first where they came from.  The names you mention are quite common, with Andersson very common - there are almost 300,000 Anderssons for example in the Swedish 50 yr death list CD.  Have you more information on those who you say left Sweden in 1881/2 ?  When the 1880 census search facility is complete which will be soon it may be easier.

There is some hope on your Lindquist - spellings vary, and I found a Carl Pettersson Lindqvist born 1858 marrying an Anna Stina Sunesdotter in Rämmen, Värmland in 1882 on the Disbyt database as an example.  They apparently had 7 children.  But this Anna was born 1862.

Do try and find out a bit more and come back with another posting.

Regards

John

They Arrived in the US 3 may 1893 together on the ship Arizona. I believe they were married about 2 years before that.  I don't have too much information on them.  He did change his name from Carl to Charles at one point. But the passenger list shows Carl

Hi

I looked this up on the Ellis Island Site where I assume you may have looked.  If not there is more incuding actual copies of the ships passenger lists.

First Name: Carl
Last Name: Lundquist
Ethnicity: Sweden
Last Place of Residence: Grythttan
Date of Arrival: May 15, 1893
Age at Arrival:  28y    Gender:  M    Marital Status:
Ship of Travel: Arizona
Port of Departure: Liverpool
Manifest Line Number: 0389

First Name: Anna
Last Name: Lundquist
Ethnicity: Sweden
Last Place of Residence: Grythttan
Date of Arrival: May 15, 1893
Age at Arrival:  26y    Gender:  F    Marital Status:
Ship of Travel: Arizona
Port of Departure: Liverpool
Manifest Line Number: 0390

One key bit of information is their place of residence which is here spelt wrongly, its Grythyttan in Örebrolän / Västmanland and in the iron working area known as Bergslaggen.  This is vital for getting more, and for the Lundqvists should enable someone else to look them up for you.

Unfortunately this is as far as my own resources can take this but I sure hope someone else can take it up for you.  There is a CD of emigrant information which may well have their departure, likely from Gothenburg to Hull UK in the first place.  Local household registers should give family information.  I say all this so that if no immediate response comes, you can title further requests appropriately.

Best wishes

John

Hello,
I found a marrige in Grythyttan 1892, July 30 between a Karl Lundquist, fabriksarbetare, factoryworker, from Skärkyrkan, Nora parish and Anna Kristina Örn, hemmadotter (daughter at home) Rockesholm (Scb Grythyttan 1892, GID 100018.50.51700) You can find the family of Anna (AI:22 sid 9, GID 180.23.19700) two of her brothers went to the US in 1890. Her father was a blacksmith. I can not see if they have emigrated.
Best wishes

May add that a cousin of Anna Kristina , namely Karl August Andersson Örn b. 31 May 1873 in Grythyttan also emigrated in 1893, in fact he left Goteborg 28 April 1893 for Ironwood, Michigan. He got a daughter Meta b. 1916 who married a relative of mine, Walter Aune.

Carl and Anna indexed as Sundquist in CD Emigranten. So they travelled with the Örn family, April 28.

We might be looking at different Carl Lindquist. The one I am searching for was born in 1958 according to the US Census' I have.  Any other information would be helpful.  Thank you.

You mean 1858.  Can only suggest you go through all census records for both of them for more clues.  As it is you have data on the Carl and Anna you identified as arriving on the Arizona in May 1893.  It could still just possibly be them.

Yes I meant 1858.  Sorry.  I will continue looking.  This is a tough one seeing that none of their children had any children here in the states. And anyone I could ask here is gone.  Thank you for you for all of your help

I was looking back at some of the responses  Eva had mentioned a marriage.  I believe this is not my Carl and Anna,.  From the info I have Anna's last name was Anderson. Not Orn.  At least that is what the US Census say.

I am still looking for link between the Lindquists and my Anderson family. I have gotten some other birth info. Anna Christina Anderson was born in Feb 1867,  Carl Lindquist was born in June 1857.  He changed his name to Charles when they emigrated in 1893. I have found one record that she was born in Hjärnarp, Kristianstad (Skåne).  I cannot read all the info I found.  I found it in the Sweden Church Records 1500 to 1940.  Kristianstad > Hjärnarp > Födde (Births) > 1867 - 1867 (:252)

If anyone car translate the parents in it I would be grateful.
Debbie

Anna Christina, born in Hjärnarp Feb 28 1867 to Anders Persson and Hanna Andersdotter is not your Anna.

She lives with the parents up to Feb 1892 when she marries Sven Elof Samuelsson. They have at least 6 children, with the last born in 1902. She dies in Hjärnarp on Feb 6 1904.

Hi Debbie, I believe you're correct that the marriage found by Eva is not your Carl and Anna.  Looking at the church record it seems that Carl's surname is actually Sundquist, not Lundquist, and they are probably the same couple who arrived in the US 15 May 1893 on the ship Arizona.  So if I'm correct then your Carl and Anna are not from Grythyttan.

There are a number of birth/death records at www.Familysearch.org for your Carl and Anna's children that verify their mother's maiden name was Anderson, and the New Hampshire birth record for their oldest child Bodil Tregierd (middle name Ingierd mistranscribed by the indexer) born 10 Sept 1894 in Manchester NH gives her father's name as Charles Peter Lindquist.  I did a search of the 1890 census at SVAR looking for year of birth 1857, first name beginning Karl P or Carl P, and surname beginning Lind, and the following man is the only possible match:  Carl Petter Lindqvist born 30 Jul 1857 in Nysund, Örebrö Län.  In Valstad AI:17 (1879-1889) image 146/page 137 he's at Hårdaholm, Suntak Parish, Skaraborgs Län (this parish's records are included in the household exam volumes for Valstad 1879-1889 and Kimbo 1890-99).  He was married 24 Nov 1884 to Maria Gustava Elisabet Brisman, born 6 Mar 1850 in Suntak, and she died 11 Dec 1888 in Suntak.  They had no children during their short marriage and in the comments column it states Lindqvist rymd till America 1886, vistas på okänd ort.  In Kimbo AI:10 (1890-1899) image 203 page 188 he was moved as of 1897 to page 227, Förteckning på obefintliga for Suntaks parish.  In Suntak AIIa.1 (1900-1910) image 98 he is still in the obefintliga bok and it states uppgifves vistas i Amerika.

If you know when he (and Anna) died, you can go to the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records and Statistics in Dorchester to look up their death certificates to maybe find their birth dates and more specific info about their places of birth.  If you're not in the area there's a service that will do it for you though for a fee.

Hi Carl, Thank you for posting.  I have their month and year but that is all.  Anna was Feb 1867 and Carl was June 1857 which was on the 1900 US Census for Mass.  I will look up some of your references.  I do know that Carl changed his first name to Charles when he came here. And it was in 1893.  I was able to contact his grandson but have not gotten any other info from him as of yet.  I am trying to contact the other grandson also.  Thank you for your help.

Hi again, I figured that might have been a long shot due to the wrong birth month, but here's a better match, almost all of the puzzle pieces fit except he would have added Carl/Charles to his name after arrival in the US.  I'll start on this side of the pond:  SS Catalonia arrived 29 May 1893 in Boston, on board were Peter Lindquist 25 years and 11 months (10 years too young, see below that he was actually 35 years and 11 months) and Anna Lindquist 26 years and 3 months; their last residence was Helsingborg and their destination is E. Scandia.  On another page of the manifest it says that's in Kansas and I think maybe the person writing the manifest misunderstood where they were going, there is an East Candia in New Hampshire that's about 15 miles from Manchester, where their daughter Bodil was born the following year.

Thank you so much Carl.  I am going to search with the info you gave me.  Makes more sense that previously.  Looks like a pretty good match so far.

Hi Debbie, Pehr Lindqvist's death record is found in at Helsingborgs stadsförsamling FI:6 (1861-1874) Bild/Image 334.  Under cause of death it states afkänd på lifert genom hängning, I am not sure if I transcribed that correctly and if it means he committed suicide?  The family in 1874 is living in Helsinbrogs stads at Kärnen #3, Helsingborgs stadsförsamling AI:56 (1869-1874) Bild 297 / sid/page 339 where we see Peter had a brother Sven Peter born 29 Dec 1864 and a sister Elna born 7 Dec 1861, both in Landskrona.  Maybe this is why Peter added Carl/Charles to his name, to differentiate from his brother?  Do you know if he had any siblings who also emigrated to the US?

The widow Boel Pehrsdotter is still living at 1 John Eriksson Helsingborgs stadsförsamling AIIa:6 (1894-1900) Bild 3240 / sid 2552, and Helsingborgs stadsförsamling AIIa:31 (1900-1907) Bild 80 / sid 4403.  She died there on 25 May 1905 (Helsingborgs stadsförsamling FI:10 (1902-1906) Bild 1350 / sid 132), cause of death marasmus senilis.  You might want to consider ordering her bouppteckning/estate inventory from the Landsarkivet in Lund because if there is one on file, it may list her surviving children and state where they live.

Hi Carl,  I believe I have found my missing link between the Lindquists and Andersons. ADonline: Landskrona stadsforsamling CI:11, 1851-1861, page 194, line 182.  Elna Lindquist's baptism witnesses.  Can you translate that whole section. Thanks.  Debbie

Hi Carl,

Nils Andersson and Kjersti Persdotter I believe are my great great grandparents. That is the link between the Lindquists and Anderssons.  I think they are somehow related not just farm hand and maid.  Thank you so much for translating.

Although Nils and Kjersti were not married when they witnessed Elna's baptism, they did marry the following year, 12 Mar 1862 (Källs-Nöbbelöv EI:1 (1862-1894) Bild 8/sid 2).  Kjersti and Boel Persdotter were sisters, their parents were Per Hansson and Gunilla Olsdotter born 17 Sep 1799 in Källs-Nöbbelöv (Källs-Nöbbelöv AI:5 (1850-1858) Bild 109/sid 102, Källs-Nöbbelöv CI:2 (1822-1861) Bild 19, and Källs-Nöbbelöv CI:2 (1822-1861) Bild 13).

Yes Carl,  I had that info, but I did not know the entire family went back.  I thought only Nils and Anton went back.  Thank you so much for all your help.  You have been wonderful.  I now have to go fix my tree on Kjersti's side.  Thanks again.
