I am trying to trace records of my great, great, great grandfather Oliver Anderson.
He is named as father, Master Mariner, on my great, great grandfather - Edward Anderson's marriage certificate. Edward signs his name as Andersson.
I have a record from Find My Past of an O Anderson born about 1807 Göteborg, Sweden onboard the Marea (Maria) of London on 5th July 1835 - 2 years before Edward's birth. I have several possible records for Edward including British census records living in Sunderland,Durham, England, crew lists, England Alien Arrivals and passenger lists.
- In census records his place of birth is listed as Gothenburg (Göteborg) British Subject.
- There is a record of an Eduard Andersson aged 17 years arriving at the port of Hull from Göteborg on 31st July 1854 aged 17 - ship- Oscar.
- A Bremen Germany Ships Crew List 10th November 1859 aged 22 years - Edward Andersson. Port of departure Bremen - destination New Orleans - Ship Elizabeth.
- 1861 census on board vessel - Pearl as A.B Seaman. States place of birth Heligoland British Subject.
- A German Sailors Registry Edward Andersson born 1837 Gothenburg. Residence Nygreen? Have been unable to find out location of Nygreen.
- Passenger list (E. Andersson) 1869 from St. Pauls to Hull onboard the ship Plato.
- 1891 census - on port Fullwell, Monkwearmouth, Sunderland on board Mytilene S/sScrew Steamer aged 52- occupation Ship Steward - Crew Roatchman. Place of birth Gathew Beng Natuesliaed, Sweden.
- 1911 census, 5 years before his death in 1915 - at sea on Mary Elizabeth. Port of departure Chester. Official vessel number 76551. There are several Oliver Andersons living in Sunderland during that time.
I believe it to be a family name. For example Oliver Anderson Born 1830/1833? Gothenburg who I believe may be Oliver's son and Edward's brother and Oliver Anderson born 1850 Gothenburg who I believe was Oliver's grandson. They were all Master Mariners.
Edward's son Charles - my Great grandfather was also a Seaman.
I would be grateful for any help or advice to gain more information.
