Sjölander - Vinslövs församling Kristianstads län

Hello from Australia.  
 
I am sorry that I don't speak Swedish, but I am looking for information of a relative and his parents.  
 
His name is Erik Albin Sjölander (date of birth 11 July 1916) and his wife's name is Majken Gertrud Ingegard Nordstrom (date of birth 6 June 1925). He came to Australia aboard the Oceania in 1959.  
 
I have found his immigration papers that say:  
 
i Vinslövs församling Kristianstads län, samt kyrko och mantalsskriven I Lackalänga församling Malmöhus län, och boende under address Lackalänga 4:7, Furulands st.  
 
I am looking for his parents whose names are Oskar Sjölander and Selma Andersson.

Mats - I don't know if Erik had any siblings but it is quite possible.  Do you think you may have found something?

Carin - the only reason I said the name Oskar for the father is because that is what Erik wrote as the name on his immigration papers.  At the moment, the only information or clues I have for the family are those papers.
 
Maybe Oskar was his father's middle name and he had a different first name, but everyone called him Oskar?  I don't know.  These things always start off as a puzzle!

In the Swedish Death Index 1947-2003 I found three Sjölander, born in Vinslöv. Two of them probably are Bror and Edvin mentioned above:
 
Karl Edvin Sjölander, born 12/5/1911 in Vinslöv, dead in Kristianstad 6/11/1993.
Bror Vilhelm Sjölander, born 3/14/1913 in Vinslöv, dead in Höör 6/11/1974.
 
and this man, who may have been another brother:
Carl Gunnar Vilhelm Sjölander, born 7/4/1917 in Vinslöv, dead in Helsingborg (Malmöhus län) 9/27/1988.

Since Selma Elisabet Sjölander nee Andersson above married Karl Reinhold 1940, it is possible she was married to Oskar Sjölander before. Then this man is a possible candidate:
Oscar Wictor Sjölander, born in Helsingborg 6/13/1875. His parents were Adolf Sjölander and Clara Mathilda Christina Lundgren (dead before 1890). In the 1890 census he lives with his father and siblings in Lund:

Maggan replied to my question with: detta är tyvärr inte den Oskar Sjölander ni letar efter, Oskar Berhard Sjölander dog nämligen 1892-09-21.
This is unfortunately not the Oskar Sjölander you are looking for, Oskar Berhard Sjölander died 1892-09-21.
 
She has another Oskar in her research, born 1895, who emigrated to US in 1923. Could perhaps be the father of Erik, we will try to find out.

Has anybody contacted the parish office of Vinslöv parish? As it seems from the information Sherry has that he was born there in 1916 - they still have the church books for this time. It must be a better way, than to guess by similarity of names on different cd:s.
 
I'd be happy to contact the parish office tomorrow, if no-one has tried this already.

The information from the immigration papers suggest that he was born in Vinslöv and lived in Lackalänga when he emigrated. Their e-mail is lackalanga.forsamling@svenskakyrkan.se

Eva - contact has been made with the parish office.  Thank you very much for your offer to assist me.  Hopefully, we can find out for sure what the name of Erik's father is.
 
I am still trying to understand how the parish system works in Sweden, because in Australia, your birth certificate stays in the head office of the state you were born in, so they are very easy to find.  I can't understand why Lackalänga parish would have any information on Erik if he was born in Vinslöv, but I am willing to take everyone's word for it!

Sherry, have you seen Swedish Roots - the English section of this e-zine?
 
The sections about Swedish Church Records and Exit permits are valid also for the 1900s - apart from the fact that household examination rolls (clerical surveys) after 1895 were replaced by a parish book.  
 
This system of keeping continuous records ment that information went with you when you moved, but the information and actual birth record is in the Book of births and baptims at the parish of birth (no birth certificates or death certificates issued). After 1947 something called the personakt where all your personal data was recorded was established. This was not kept by the person who emigrated, but with the archives of the parish (and then transferred to the Regional archives)
 
(as a side note: until 1991 the official record keeping of the Swedes was done by the State Church - now it's the Tax authorities and we don't have a state church anymore either).
