Johan is my maternal 2nd great-grandfather who was born in Finland, 25 Jul 1802.  He was married to Anna Sophia Lindgren, 7 Apr 1797.  Anna died on 28 May 1858 in Borgfors, Pitea, Norbotten, Sweden.  A number of family trees list Johan's date on that same date, but I don't see any death records for him on 28 May 1858.  I don't believe this is true, but I cannot find him after leaving Borgfors on that date.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks, Carol

In Anna Sofias death notice it says that she is a widow.  I couldn't find Johans death notice before May 1858, but I only quick-scanned for dead in Borgfors -- he may have died elsewhere.

Staffan:

I do not see where it says she is a widow.

In Pitea landsforsamling (BD) AI:9e (1854-1861) Bild:194  Sida: 1344, there is a household record showing Johan still alive, but there is no indication where he went.  I tried Moving Out records but found nothing.

Thanks for looking.

The death notice says "Arbetar. Johan Lundquists Ea Anna Sofia Lindgren". "Ea" is short for "Enka", widow. On the row above is a "Hu", "H[ustr]u".

The household record does not have his death date, but he is stricken out, with no notes in the dated columns after 1858. The notes before that is "lös", which indicates he had no paying job -- it may be he wandered the area, and died in some other parish. Maybe someone with the latest edition of Dödboken can have a look?

Thanks, Staffan,

Since there are notes in the column for 1855, wouldn't that indicate he was still alive then?  If this is right, he must have died between 1855-1858.  In any case, I have learned a few things.  I knew the word for widow, but the abbreviations sometimes throw me off.  Carol

There are notes, "lös", in the examination column up to and including 1858, so possibly someone (his wife?) answered  that he was still alive, and still unemployed at household examination -- but since she is called "Enka" in May, they may have had notice that he had died. It's speculative, of course, but a death date sometime in the spring of 1858?

He definitely was in Piteå 1855-12-25, when he took holy communion.

Thanks once again, Staffan.

I have looked at all the death records from 1853-1858 but did not see him.  Maybe it was just not recorded.  I am now looking at records for all his children to see if he appears living with any of them or nearby.  His son, Bror Anton, was my great-grandfather and his daughter Beda was my grandmother.  Her daughter was my mother who emigrated to the U.S.  I wish she had taught me Swedish.
