I cannot understand where Johan Magnus Magnusson, 13 Nov 1863 Aker, goes in 1920.  What does this notation mean?  I have searched the moving out records but cannot find him.

Thanks, Carol

"Obef." is a register of "obefintliga", people that are gone without telling anyone. I can't find him anywhere with Arkiv Digital' search tool so he might have left the country, possibly for America.

In Johan Magnus father's estate inventory dated 31 August 1907 it is said that Johan Magnus is living in Copenhagen.

And in Copenhagen he can be found for instance here:

Census 1906, FamilySearch, https://www.familysearch.org/search/ark:/61903/1:1:QLXW-J1BQ.
Census 1911, https://www.familysearch.org/search/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2WW-ZLXZ.
Census 1916, https://www.familysearch.org/search/ark:/61903/1:1:Q2CZ-52FY.

Johan Magnus died 17 April 1916 in Fulsom Herred, Denmark. Københavns Stadsarkiv, https://kbharkiv.dk/brug-samlingerne/soeg-i-indtastede-kilder/post/1-445802.

Thanks for your help; however, I don't believe that this is the correct Johan Magnusson living in Copenhagen.  If the last household record lists him as moving in 1920, then he could not have died in 1916.  Carol

No, the last record don't mean that he was known up to that date. In fact he could have been missing for years, and the last record just say that he was no more registered in Asarum. Thus if other facts don't contradict him living in Copenhagen and dead there, it could really be correct.

OK.  However, the 1910 Census has him living in Asarum as an unmarried man.  The records from Denmark show him as living in Denmark before 1910 and as a married man.  So I do not think it's the same man.  There are also some some notations on the last household record with dates of 1915 (which I don't understand).  I'm not sure what Maud was referring to when she wrote about his father's estate.

He is noted as "obefintl" (missing) already in 1902 according to
Asarum (K) AIIa:2 (1895-1904) Bild 1070 / sid 503 (AID: v235080.b1070.s503, NAD: SE/LLA/13008)
Asarum (K) AIIa:7 (1904-1912) Bild 1480 / sid 543 (AID: v235085.b1480.s543, NAD: SE/LLA/13008)

Sorry I don't have the page numbers in the corresponding books from SVAR. But you can see it in the notes column if you have them.

So I do believe he left Asarum without notifying, and the priest just transferred him to the following books... and then in 1920 he was transferred to "obefintliga"... I guess noone knew he died in 1916.

There is no notation in Asarum (K) AI:29 (1885-1895) Bild 320 / sid 314 (AID: v95375.b320.s314, NAD: SE/LLA/13008), but he could have left earlier. The Denmark 1906 census states he came from Sweden already in 1891 if correct.

I'm also curious about his fathers estate inventory, since he (and his twin sister) were born out of wedlock and no father was mentioned in the birth notice. But, since he got that last name his father must have been revealed at some later point

In the Varnamo household records of 1882-1891, it lists Jonas Magnus Andreasson, 24 May 1832, as married to Inga Kristina Johannisdotter, 14 Jan 1836, (my great-grandaunt).  There are four children also.  Johan Magnus and his twin sister are there and are not listed as born out-of-wedlock.  So I am assuming that he is the father as they married in 1864, one year after the twins were born.  I am still wondering why he is in the 1910 Census for Asarum.  This is very confusing to me.  I will try to find the estate records.  Carol
P.S.  Thank you to all the people who are replying.

Carol,
The Swedish  censuses are not real censuses where census takers go around interviewing and registering people. They just show the status of the household records on 31 Dec of the census year. If there is an error in the household records, like if someone has left without notifying the priest, this error will be copied into the "census".

Kristina,

Thanks again.  When I go to Riksarkivet for the estate records, they only go to 1860 for Ostbo (unless I am looking in the wrong place).

Sven,

Oh, me!  I learn something new everyday.  And I thought the Swedes were perfect record keepers:)

Yes, if you would like a copy of the estate inventory you have to  make a request for it here:
https://bestall.riksarkivet.se/sv/bouppteckning-till1979

Arkiv digital have until 1947 for Östbo but its not free as SVAR, but maybe you know this  :)

Kristina,

Thanks.  It looks like I can order it; however, it cost 4K per page plus shipping.  I will skip it.  I am already paying for ancestry so don't want to spend more on Arkiv.

Thanks for all your help.

Register card for Johan Magnus Magnusson with adresses he had lived at in Copenhagen. Note that he is said to be born i Aakes, Sweden. Aa in Danish is the same as Å in Swedish. Københavns Stadsarkiv, https://kbharkiv.dk/brug-samlingerne/soeg-i-indtastede-kilder/post/17-1585547.

Johan Magnus did not get married until 12 May 1907, which explains why his (future) wife has Nielsen as surname 1906. Rigsarkivet, https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17118227#155566,25994712.

Thanks, Maud.  I never would have found him without everyone’s work.  This forum is so helpful for those of us in the States with Swedish ancestors, of which I have many.  Carol
