I am tracking Karl Fridolf Karlsson, 18 Mar 1887, Hova. Parents are Karl Johan Olofsson and Maria Sofia Jansdotter.  I have found him in a number of household records.  He has moved around quite a bit.  The last record I have is a moving out record from Glava to ? (I cannot read it) on 23 Nov 1913 (sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/00031828_00075).  He appears on line 71.  And I don’t understand the numbers to the right - 243 45/1997? (I think).  I’ve seen numbers like this in columns that I believe indicate military service, but I don’t know what that means.

I did find what I think might be a death record, but his name reads Karl Fridolf Mentz, 10 Apr 1945 in Degerfors.  The birth date matches but not the name.  He was in the military so it’s possible that his name was changed.  Also, there is a word “predikant” next to his name.  I took this to be “minister”.   The death record shows him to be married, but I cannot find any marriage record.

Any help would be appreciated.

Carol

The death record say that he was "ogift" = not married. You have to follow him in the Congregation Records and you find him in Degerfors (T) AIIa:14 (1932-1941) Image 3320 / Page 1131 (AID: v228555.b3320.s1131, NAD: SE/ULA/12217) and in Degerfors (T) AIIa:7 (1917-1933) Image 1660 / Page 154 (AID: v228542.b1660.s154, NAD: SE/ULA/12217), and in that you can see that he was allowed to take tha name Mentz on 1931-12-11.

You're right.  I was looking at the wrong record when I thought he was married.  Thank you so much for your help as I never would have found him.  I was looking at the Degefors records, but if there is no index I'm lost.  Even so, if I have no indication of what place in the parish I usually can't find someone.  Was he a minister?

Also, thanks to the records for 1932-1941, I found his sister, her husband, and their children.

In those records he is a Predikant, but as it probably was not in the Swedish Church, I think the more appropriate translation is Preacher, or what do you think?

You would know better than I.  I had to look up the word in my Swedish dictionary.  Thanks again, Carol
