Lars Eriksson

I am trying to track the life of Lars Eriksson.  His birth record is here:

which shows a birthdate of 10 August 1791 in Hoberget, Hedemora Parish, Kopparberg (now Dalamas) County with parents Eric Larsson and Lisa Ersdotter.

My plan was to now look for a household record in the Parish of Hedemora that contains Lars and his parents in 1791.  When I look for the household records for Hedemora Parish on ArkivDigital there are three volumes: Al:11a, Al:11b and Al:11c.  Al:11b and Al:11c have indexes in the front:

and I do not see "Hoberget" on the list.

Before I go page by page through each volume, just want to make sure there isn't a better way?

After a search on Hoberget, it turned out that the place is probably on the border with Grangärde parish. In Grangärde parish's household record AI:9d I find Hoberget.

However, it turns out that unfortunately there are more Hoberget.
A "Hoberget" in Grangärde parish.
A "Hoberget" in Nås parish.
A "Hoberg" in Leksand parish.

With the index BiS, look for his mother (b/c she has the more distinctive name ...) Lisa Ersdotter (first name "Li*", last name "E*"), born on or before 1775 (to 1775, leave the other box empty), living in Hedemora (parish "Hedemora*", the star because there is more than one ...), and -- a trick! -- in the free text field enter "1790 - 1800", matching the year range on the volume description for Hedemora AI:11a, b and c (there's no field for this information in the search form, but it is in the index, and searchable ...).

Returns 5 hits, one of which is the shoemaker (Erik?) Larsson Hoberg in Vikmanshyttan, with family -- including your Lars.

The shoemaker is probably the Eric that is listed on the row above, son of Lars Jansson, b 1723, and maybe also called Hoberg. But, as usual, follow them in the books ...

Stephan:

To clarify:

1) I go to the index search, and choose the index source of BiS (Population of Sweden) 1800-1947).  I was thinking records prior to 1800 could not be searched.
2) I then go to advanced search and put "Li*" in first name and "E*" in second name.  I'm assuming Gender is marked "all".
3) I then go to the birth section and put "1775" in the Birth year (from).  Nothing else in this section.
4) I then go to the Location section and put "Hedemora*" in for the Parish.
5) I am not sure where the free text field is that I should enter "1790-1800"?

The indexed books are all that contain the year 1800, and later ... I'm certain there are exceptions and lacunae, but in this case (Hedemora AI:11a, b and c) it appears they are there ...

The freetext-field is the one under Simple Search, at the top.

If you add spaces around the hyphen in the Simple Search field, it should work. (I said it's a trick, didn't I? If you don't follow the instructions exactly, it won't work ... )

Actually, what is needed, it turns out (I just had a flash of inspiration ...) is enough information to identify the volume(s) -- and order does not matter ... So we (you and I!) just simplified the trick ...

I tested with both "1790 1800" and "1800 1790", and get the same 5 hits. And in this specific case, when we are at the "beginning of time", or at least at the beginning of the indexed period ... it is actually enough with "1790", since that will uniquely identify the AI:11 set of books.
