My gg-gf Eric Gustaf Bergström (b 6-23-1856 -Hedvig Eleonora ) is listed in Hedvig Elenora moving out record, Hedvig Eleonora (A, AB) BIIa:13 (1870-1875) Image 24 (AID: v85549.b24, NAD: SE/SSA/0006), Entry #73.  I do not understand the entry in the column after his name. It looks like “Conf’d” 1871. There is no local address information provided.  My goal is to find out where and with whom he was living  with between 1871 and 1861. His age is between 5 and 15. He is not in the household of his mother Pauline Ulrica Nordstrom (1834-03-20 (Västerås domkyrkoförs) who is divorced and is seamstress and remarries to a Lars Erik Lundin in 1865.
Any help with this puzzle would be greatly appreciated.  Attached is a .pdf of the entry. Thanks!

There are no confirmation records (preserved) in Västerås domkyrko parish before 1895.

Formally Erik Gustaf Bergström moved in Nov 6, 1871 from (Hedvig Eleonora) Stockholm:
Västerås Domkyrkoförsamling (U) BI:3 (1861-1878) Bild 157 (AID: v74761.b157) nr 160

He lived with his maternal grandmother until August 1874 when he returned to Stockholm, Adolf Fredrik's parish:
Västerås Domkyrkoförsamling (U) AIa:17a (1871-1879) Bild 168 / Sida 159 (AID: v74706.b168.s159)

Thank you, again, for  your information and the time you spent digging this out.
My next puzzle is to find out where he was living before he left for Vasteras.
Thanks again!
Jack

It seems likely that Erik Gustaf Bergström lived with his grandmother in Västerås for some time, maybe several years, before 1871 although he was not registered to move out from Hedvig Eleonora or move into Västerås until that year. Before confirmation (at the age of at least 15) children could be placed in fosterhome elsewhere without the move being notified to the any parish. Erik Gustaf's confirmation took place in Västerås about five months before his formal move there in Oct/Nov 1871.

Thank you for that observation! That may explain why Eric is not listed with her in Vasteras prior to 1871. Am I correct to understand that a minor child could not be recorded as moving out without an accompanying adult? This could explain his" disappearance". Thanks again!

Minor children could very well be recorded as moving out alone, but quite often they were not.

Maybe Erik Gustaf Bergström can be found in Västerås school archives in the 1860's, kept by Västerås stadsarkiv (City Archives) that I will contact on Monday.

Unfortunately, Erik Gustaf Bergström has not been found as a pupil in any Västerås’ municipal school in the 1860's. According to the archivist, Erik Gustaf may (if he lived in Västerås at that time) have attended a school run by the Church (whose archives are kept by Landsarkivet in Uppsala) or have received some private tuition.
