I've been following Jöns and wife and Måns and wife through the tax records for Råaköp in Torpa parish from 1691 - 1708.  Now, after an eight year gap, I find the attached tax 1715 tax record which I'm not sure how to interpret....are these all different people with same/similar names or same people?

There appears to be:
Måns and wife - 2
Måns Jönsson and wife - 1
Jöns wife - 1

There is also a note, which I don't understand, but hope will help.

If anyone can shed some light on this I'd be very appreciative!

Thanks for your help,

Vicki

The note says: "afflicted by a horrible disease"
Those are all different people. They might be relalated though, and certain names are often common in some familys

Thank yoyu, Kalle.

That is a very interesting note.  Makes me wonder what the "horrible disease" was.  I thought they probably were different people (and likely related) because the names run in the family as you say.  In the second and third listings, are they referring to the wife of Måns  and the wife of Jöns?  Or, are they referring (in each case) another husband and wife, each being taxed for only one person?

Thanks so much for your help,

Vicki

It seems like it should be Måns Jönsson and wife, but still only one of them is taxed. Maybe because the other one is too sick? My first thought was the plague, but it seems to go away two or three years prior to this. Whatever disease it was, it did kill a lot of people. The death records for Torpa shows a more dead people 1715-1717 than before and after that period. Mostly old people, but also several women in their 30s.
