Hi, I am searching for a Mathew Hanson who may have been a sailor who jumped ship in Queensland, Australia.  His marriage record in 1885 says he was born in Carlby, Heden Nora, Sweden with parents:  Hans Mattson and Ana Hugbacka.  He was 38 years old at that time making him born about 1847.  I can find a place called Karleby and a place called Hedemora but they are not in the same place.  I would be grateful if someone can suggest a likely place name.
Thank you
Michelle

Hello Michelle, here's a possible candidate for your Mathew Hanson, found in some other peoples' trees posted on Ancestry and Geni so more research is needed to prove whether this is the correct person.  Matts Hansson was born in Karleby Finland (not Sweden) on 12 June 1845 (see christening record on Familysearch.org below) and parents were his Hans Mattss Heinola and Anna.

According to the Ancestry and Geni trees, his mother's full name was Anna Jacobsdotter Högbacka and his father's name was Hans Mattsson Heinola Pulkkis.

Hope this helps and best of luck in your search!
Carl

Thank you very much Arne.

I am quite sure he is the correct person.  His great granddaughter has some unexplained Finnish DNA from Ostrobothnia amongst the rest of her Scandinavian DNA so we now have an answer for that too!

Best wishes
Michelle
