Birth Record for Bengt (Bernström), Väse, Värmland 1690

(1/1)

Kevin Casey:
The attached birth/baptism record is from https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0039472_00145 (Väse, Värmland kyrkoarkiv, sida 127).

Some secondary records interpret this record as the May 12, 1690 birth record for Bengt Fredriksson (who might be the same man later called Bengt Bernström), son of Frederik and Margrit Bengtsson. Others say this is for Bengt, son of Cesare Fredriksson and Margrit Bengtsson.

I can see the "Cesare," perhaps, and also perhaps master mason and the placename Laggaregården, but my eyes are starting to cross, and any help would be appreciated.

I agree on Laggaregården and then my suggestion is:
Father murmästaren Casper Fredrich
Mother Marit Bengtsdotter from Snaversrud

Thank you, Erik. I agree that the name looks like Casper Frederick.

It is also interesting that the father's name is given, although Bengt was an oäkta barn. Also, I can't seem to find any other mention of Casper in the Parish, though perhaps I'm just not seeing it. He might have simply been "passing through," however.

It is also interesting that Frederick does not seem to be an abbreviation for Fredriksson (the name almost seems German to me).

I'm also not sure why a Master Mason would be in Väse at that time, since I don't believe there any major construction projects happening.

There was a Master Mason Casper Frederick who lived in Stockholm then, and his work seems to have had him traveling quite a bit. He would have been old at the time of Bengt's birth, but perhaps not too old. I will have to research this Master Mason more thoroughly.
