On page 292 at the very bottom, Sigge Gunnarsson moved in to Råda. What is the place he came from and what are the words following the place name on the last line? 


On page 105, the last baptism, what are the words under the birth and baptism date of Sigge?

It looks like he comes from "Säderstad" but I guess it could be Särestad parish that isn't too far away. The next words are "godh attest", he has a note from the priest in his former parish that says he's a good man.

I can't really tell what the baptism note says though.

Tack så mycket! Thank you so very much. I too read Säderstad and found no such place. I tried to find something likely and tried Segerstad which gave no results.  But Särestad proved to be the answer. I found not only the birth of the daughter I had hoped to find, but also the marriage of Sigge.  While not proven yet, I'm very excited as this may be the beginning of the solution to what has been a very elusive "brick wall" line.


With regard to the words on the birth record, is there a special word in Swedish for the birth of a child after the father has died?


Also,where is Särestad relative to Råda or Mellby? I couldn't find it in my atlas.

I can't think of any such word. I have seen birth notices whith only the mother in it, with the title "änka", widow, but this was of course a rare event and I guess prists would improvise in different ways.

Särestad is some distance south west from Råda, with the parish church close to road 44. You can see the location here:

The words are latin, fetus posthumus. So the father was dead at the child's birth.

Thank you for the location information. I was able to find it in my atlas. I was looking too close to Råda before.

Thank you for providing that. Once I looked at it thinking in Latin, it was perfectly clear.  After I had posted my original question I did a page by page search of the 1705 hfl (I had not been able to find Sigge using possible locations from the index) and found enkian Ingrid Nilsdr.  in Torsg.  and confirmed his death in the 1706 ML. Unfortunately the death records from 1702-1707 are missing.  I haven't encountered any Latin lately in my research, but have in the past.
