Hi,
Could someone please interpret these property sale/purchase documents of my great-great grandparents, Erik Petersson and Karolina Nilsdotter? I was told they sold the land but kept the house. Karolina died in 1929. Is Erik selling the house in 1932?

Also, I was told that Erik participated in military training. Does anyone know where I could find information on this?

Thank you,
Lynette Norlander Case

Second column is the registry numbers and names of the estates/allotments. Third column the buyer, fourth column the seller, followed by the date for issuing the title deed and other remarks. So:

Img. 1, No 36: L. G. Bål and Ingrid Stina Petersson buy a part (35,000 square meters) of Toremåla 2. Price: 120 SEK.This part is given the registry number 2:15.

Documents in the National Survey Authority's archive give more information:
https://historiskakartor.lantmateriet.se/historiskakartor/show.html?archive=REG&showmap=true&searchType=v&nbOfImages=4&sd_base=lm08&sd_ktun=00029fy4&mdat=20170710150803867155

the new allotment (35,000 square meters) was part of a bog - in other words, not the best arable land. The price was SEK 120.

Img. 1, No. 37/38: Karl Oskar Larsson and his wife Alma Larsson buy the greater part of Torehult 2from Erik and Karolina. Erik and Karolina kept a part that was parcelled off and given the registry number Torehult 2:16.

Again, there are documents in the National Survey Authority's archive:
https://historiskakartor.lantmateriet.se/historiskakartor/show.html?archive=REG&showmap=true&searchType=v&nbOfImages=5&sd_base=lm08&sd_ktun=00029fy5&mdat=20170710141445427659

The size of the parcelled Torehult 2:16, kept by Erik and Karolina, was 9.067 square meters. Karl Oskar and Alma paid 4.100 SEK for the rest of Torehult 2.

What's the worth of the sums today? See http://www.historicalstatistics.org/Currencyconverter.html

Img. 2 Erik and Karolina sell Torehult 2:10 (also called Oxellund No. 1) to Erik Magnusson and Amanda Petersson. For some obscure reason the title deed wasn't issued until 1932, although the deal dates back to 1903. So no, Erik is not selling his home (Torehult 2:16) in 1932.

Thank you for answering my questions. You have been so helpful. I appreciate it so very much.

And I hope you don’t mind one more question. Is there any way to determine where this property is today? Next summer I am planning a trip to Torhult and Frånö to visit my family’s roots. I would like to see the property. I know the house is gone but I would like to see where my great-grandmother Gerda grew up. She died when I was six years old but I still remember her.

Here's an excellent map site where you can search for place names (you'll find the search button among the row of buttons to the left): https://kso.etjanster.lantmateriet.se/?lang=en#

Since the map can show the boundaries of the estates, it is possible to locate Torehult 2:16 - see the map image below. As you already know, there's no house on that spot any longer.

As you probably already know, you'll find Torhult/Torehult/Torahult northwest of Gullabo, on the road between Torsås and Vissefjärda.

Wow, this is an unexpected discovery!

Any idea what they are referring to about an attest?
Also, I have looked through the birth records in the Gullabo Parish and am unable to find a birth record for a child of Kasja Andersdotter. Any help finding the record would be most appreciated.

Thank you!

I found the birth certificate. The baby was born in 1876, earlier than I expected. Erik would have only been 16-17 years old. I am wondering if the notation in the household examination record is for his older brother instead. Does the notation above have anything to do with the birth of this child? Would someone please translate the text above the birth text.

Thank you.

I will repost the photo.

I am a bit confused as Erik was born in 1859 and Casja in 1850. Erik’s brother Andreas was born in 1853, closer to Casja’s age so I am wondering if he is the father. I am trying to figure out if the remarks about the baby’s birth were meant for him instead. There was no space in Andreas’ remarks section when it was written so it was written in Erik’s.

Thank you.
