In the Jamtland Offerdal Death  Records 1800-1861 (Page 97, Image 53) there is quite a long write-up about Jon Tjeder who was my 4th great grandfather - it seems to include information on his military service and such.  Could anyone be so kind as to translate this for me?
Thanks in advance, Linda from Canada

Hi, I try to "skim the Cream of":
Fältjägaren Jon Tjeder in Åslo wasborn 15 March 1779 to Anders Ersson and his wife Märta Oldsoter in Utgård.
They gave him some education and breeding and then he started to work for others.
1801 he became a Soldier and followed his regiment "Hjerpen and Wästerbotten" (?) for Campaigns during 1808 and 1809.
1803 he was married to Anna Jonsdoter in Åslo, a farmer´s daughter, and had 1 son and 4 daughters - one of these died Before the father.
Jon Tjeder was a quiet and meek/gentle man, but apprehended/slightly suspected for pilfering.
He was for several weeks pained by cough and affection of the lungs. He was 34 years old.

Perhaps someone want to rectify my translation, please do so!

Just one more thing - what does "Fältjägaren" mean?  Is that a military rank or a reference to occupation?
Thanks, Linda from Canada

Offerdal is a parish in Jämtland province. There was a regiment raised in Jämtland called “Jämtlands fältjägarregemente” or Jämtland Rifle Regiment in English. A “fältjägare” was a soldier serving in this regiment or rifleman in English.
A rifle regiment is a military unit consisting of a regiment of infantry troops armed with rifles and known as riflemen. While all infantry units in modern armies are typically armed with rifled weapons the term is still used to denote regiments that follow the distinct traditions that differentiated them from other infantry units. A similar term is army ranger. /Hans
