On one of my ancestors military records, it shows he was in Pomerania from 1757 to 1762.
He was in the Vasterbotten Regiment.
It states: "fången vid Lycknes 1760-10-03"

Can anyone shed some light on this?
Where was the prison, conditions, release of prisoners, etc?

Also, it states he was at Bissdorf on 1759-11-20 but I can't find any information on that campaign.

Thank you!

If you have a name and perhaps number for your soldier, I might be able to shed some light. Have myself two ancestors who were there that scary night between the 2nd and 3rd of October 1760. One fled and one was taken prisoner, both badly wounded but survived.

Also, Bissdorf was no campaign, it was the place for the "Generalmönstring" (don't recall the term in english just now...)

For immediate use, try this site for more information regarding the Swedish campaigns in Pomerania  :) , it is the complete history of the Seventh Year War:

http://www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php?title=Campaigns

I have made some research on this regiment in this war, mostly Skellefteå and Löfånger Compagnies since I have several ancestors in those, but only two in Överstelieutenantens Compagnie where your soldiers served.
However,  most often they fought together so I will try to put together what happened and what they might have experienced at Pasewalk and Löcknitz (the correct German name for Lycknäs).

If you are able to understand some Swedish I can send you the history of my own ancestors at the affaire of Löcknitz, else I will try to translate it for you.

Prisoners of this war was seldom put in regular prisons, they were marched far into Prussian territory, to some town where they tried to make a living under guard. For those at Löcknitz the town Stettin became their "prison". Often they were pressed into Prussian service. Some could flee, some with luck were exchanged and some had to wait until the war ended.

Of those 26 lost that night, 2 managed to flee the same night, 3 died in captivity, 12 were exchanged in January 1761, 8 were never heard of again and 1 showed up at the muster at home in Västerbotten in January 1763.

Bissdorf is just a small village in then Swedish Pomerania where muster of the regiment took place the 20th November 1759.

Thank you Christer! Much appreciated.
Yes I would like to read about your ancestors time at Locknitz.
I have limited understanding of Swedish but I can use Google Translate.
I have seen the Kronoskaf website and it is very informative, I just wanted more detail on the prisoners of war.
I assume the Swedish prisoners that were pressed into Prussian service were doing manual labor only.
Thank you again!

Hello again,
Oh no, they were often brutally pressed into service and put straight into Prussian units, often at the southern front where they had to fight against Austrian and Russian Corps. Prussia had a constant lack of soldiers since at least 50% were mercenaries of foreign nationalities and they often deserted because of the extremely harsh discipline.

Several Swedish soldiers escaped by fleeing over to the Austrian side during battles, where they were welcomed as allies and often got help to get back to their own units.
Welcome to contact me via e-mail (see my profile) and I will send you the complete story abt Löcknitz.
