Why family took the Lundquist name? (Johan Lundquist)

Trying to figure out why family member took the Lundquist name his name was Johan Lundquist Birth 15 Apr 1772

The most common reason that Johan Andersson took the name Lundquist was that he was a soldier, but when Carl Magnus was born he was a Gardener, and that could also be the reason. To be sure you have to find him in Household Examinations, and the birth record do not say where he was living. If the death date is correct, he did not died in Fliseryd, do you know where, parish is needed.

They got another child, Lena Lovisa, in Jan 1803, Fliseryd C:3 (1786-1830) Bild 87 / sid 165 (AID: v38466.b87.s165, NAD: SE/VALA/00080) and the family lived in Läggevi. I still don't find them in Fliseryd AI:2 but Johan, unmarried, is "Servant and Gardener" in Läggevi Manor and Powder Works in Fliseryd AI:1 (1784-1795) Bild 131 / sid 209 (AID: v22007.b131.s209, NAD: SE/VALA/00080) (that is 1795). Still much to find out, but he probably was not a soldier and took the name Lundquist because he was a gardener.

I searched the "Person och lokalhistoriskt forskarcentrums/ Person and local Historical Research Center" CD 2 and found that a Gardener Johan Lundqvist died in Döderhultsvik in Döderhult Parish in 1837-03-15. When he dies he was married and 66 years old. That must be your Johan Lundqvist and it is clear that he was a gardener and therefor he could take a new surname.

Thank you so much for this the information you provided it is so invaluable to many of us (his ancestors) here in the States.

I made a Facebook "Lundquist" group a short while back where many of Johan's ancestors are sharing information and pictures and conversing, it was great to put this information on there.

It was also great to find out where he worked "Läggevi Manor and Powder Works", I found pictures of it online and have shared that to the group also.
