The image is of a notation in the death record of my 2nd Great-grandmother, Ingar Nilsdotter 1825-1889.  Her husband (Pehr Jönsson) left Sweden for America in 1885 with his Uncle Nils Bengtsson.  Ingar was left in Tegelladan, Slimminge Parish, Malmöhus alone, "fattig" as notated in Husförhör 1883-1894 Al:21.  After following her son Nils Pehrsson/Ekberg, I find her with him and his wife in Bunkeflo in 1887 which is very near where she died, Hyllie - 1889 October 19 - recorded in both Hyllie and Slimminge.

I hope the note will help me know why she was left behind,

Attest af ________________ Enk i Slimminge d. 24 Oct 1889.
Certified that __________________husband of Slimminge d. 24 Oct 1889

Is my understanding of "fattig" correct, was she then homeless when her husband left for America?

Thank you for any better understanding of Ingar's life.

Donna

Attest avsänd till Past. Emb. i Slimminge d 24 Oct 1889. She died in Hyllinge and this say that a message about that was sent to Slimminge Parish, as she was registered there. In Hyllie she was probably living with her son in law, as the other remark say "Died at her son in law in Hyllinge". Maybe they could only afford to buy one ticket, and the husband had to earn money in Amerika to buy a ticket for his wife. Or she did not wanted to leave her country.

Thank you Leif!

It is sad that anyone would have to leave their home country, especially beautiful Sweden which I have had the pleasure of visiting.  I did not want to guess the reason Ingar stayed behind if the reason was given in the records, it must have been a very difficult time to cause families to separate.

Leif, I found the death record in Hyllie Parish.  Is this the record that says she went to live with her son-in-law?  I am wondering if it has anything to say about her cause of death.

I read the original death record in Hyllie/Limhamn FI:1 (1861-1894) Bild 990 / sid 95 (AID: v102965a.b990.s95, NAD: SE/MSA/01159) and you read a copy, so they are not identical. The original has the note "Död hos sin svärson i Hyllie", Died at her son in law in Hyllie. Nothing about cause of death. She was still registered in Slimminge, and it is not possible to say if she was only temporally with her son in law or of she had moved to him for good.
