this is my first visit into the Swedish genealogy.

I'm told my Grandfather Svante Per Gustaf Ogren was born in Skellefea on April 18 1907.  I am looking for information on the marriage of his parents, Sven and Maria Kristina.  I have been pointed toward them having been married in on Dec, 1888.  I have a been told that Sven was born on May 31 1864, and that Maria Kristina was born on June 11 1864.  I am hoping to find information leading to their parents.  Can someone point me toward the records that I can search for this, or more information?  Thanks so much.

For a start, this is the household record for the family at the time of the birth of Per Gustaf Svante, Skellefteå landsförsamling AIIa:5 (1900-1910) Bild 3040 / sid 286 (AID: v139618.b3040.s286, NAD: SE/HLA/1010174). You can read all kinds of records if you have a subscription on ArkivDigital.

Thank you so much, that is amazing.  I doubt the picture is recognized by anyone, but I thought I would include it just in case.

Hi!

You can try and post the photo under Pictures and choose the relevant parish, so more people can see it. Also, our Swedish National Archive plan to make the digital service "SVAR" free to use. I think that it will be free for people outside Sweden too. If not you can pay for SVAR or ArkivDIgital. If you are going to take your genealogical research seriously you will probably need one of them or at least Ancestry with Swedish Archives. Simplified I would say that you first should go to the birth records that you know for sure, check who the parents are and were they lived, go to the household records and see their birth places and dates. Follow the family forward in time as ong as you can and then go back and check up the parents birth records and so on.

Thank you for the information.  I will look for the area to post photos.  It appears that the ArkivDigital subscription is about $35 per month?

I am curious, Maria Kristina Viklund, born June 11 1864 may be the same person Maria Kristina Andersson, born the same date to Anders Wiklund.  Is that too much of a leap of faith?  Does anyone know what the population of Skelleftea would have been in the 1860s?

I use SVAR and it costs around 900 kr / aprox 100 USD for a year. ArkivDigital costs aprox 1600 kr a year. According to the hosehold recrord that was posted by Leif Lundkvist you can see that your ancestors lived outside the city in the rural parish (landsförsamling). They lived in Bergsbyn (berg= mountain/rock by = villlage/ hamlet) that was a farm with a taxation level 1/16 (of an original whole homestead). During the 1860's there would only live around 300-400 people in the Town/city and around year 1880 the populatuion had increased to 1000.(wikipedia).

So 300 to 1000 in Skelleftea? or Bergsbyn?  Just curious how likely a name with a specific birth date would be.  Thanks for the info.

I am having a difficulty finding the photo posting area.

300 inhabitants in the Town of SKellefteå around the year 1860 and 1000 around 1880.

You can perhaps post the photo under bilder(Pictures) /Västerbotten region/ människor(people).

Ken, how do you want to continue, make the research yourself asking questions here when you need help, or just get some more details from us? Already in the first picture above there is additional information, such as that the marriage was on Dec 2 1888, but all such information should be verified in the source, in this case the marriage record. On the bottom of the page (not shown in my picture) is a Lars Wilhelm Ögren, born 1834-05-10, probably Per Gustaf Svante's grandfather, but the birth records will show if it is actually correct.

If the information you gave at first are known facts, it's no doubt that this is the right person (what was the first name he used in US?), but if you only knew a limited part of it, such as "Svante Ogren born 1907 in Sweden", then there might be other possible persons. Anders Wiklund's daughter would be named Maria Kristina Andersdotter (not Andersson) and she could take her fathers name (or not) and that will be clear when you follow the records.

Around 1900 Bergsbyn itself had around 1000-1200 inhabitants, and strangely enough it is not up in the mountains, no, it is downstrem Skellefteälven (the river) halfway to the Baltic Sea.

Do you know the names of the persons in the picture and is the house their home in Bergsbyn?

I appreciate the help you have given me.
I have information given to me from Sven Uno's Granddaughter.
Sven Ogren born May 31 1864
Maria Kristina born June 11 1864 (the document Vicklund matches search results I have gotten Wicklund, Vickstrom, etc.)
She gave me the names of the children that match this document plus the names of children that didn't make it beyond a year.
My father only remembered that his dad had told him the were from Vasterbottens.

My Grandfather went by Svante, and his brother went by Uno.

I am unsure of the people in the photo.  My father believes it is his grandparents, and their children, with his father believed to be the smallest. but it is only speculation.

I didn't mention above that Sven Uno's granddaughter Kristina also included the birthdates of the children of Sven and Maria Kristina, as well as many of the grandchildren.

Ken, you didn't comment on how to continue. A bit random, I looked up Sven Ögren's birth record, Skellefteå landsförsamling C:12 (1860-1870) Bild 69 / sid 248 (AID: v139644.b69.s248, NAD: SE/HLA/1010174). Interesting, can you read, did you know before? Next is Maria Christina's birth record (same source but the right page) and finally their marriage record, Skellefteå landsförsamling EI:3 (1875-1894) Bild 98 / sid 94 (AID: v139659.b98.s94, NAD: SE/HLA/1010174). For some reason he is named Sven Lars Ögren, but the birth record say only Sven and he actually had a half brother named Lars, maybe an error of the priest. You don't see the marriage date in the picture, it is 2/12 1888.

Thank you so much.  I am reluctant to ask you for more assistance, you have been so helpful already, so I am unsure what my options may be in terms of how to continue.  My curiosity is peaked about where their farm may have been.  Thank you again.

I looked up Hustru (wife). Is it JoMannen Lars Degersted?   I am having some difficulty reading this.  What is the last column reffering to?

I was able to get an account with sok.riksarkivet.se.  They will be making the info available for free beginning in February.  I was able by using your addressing information to find the birth records for Sven and Maria Kristina.  I would be interested in learning more about how to understand the additional information that is on these pages.  Also how I might begin to look for the records of their parents without dates of birth.  Thank you, this is very interesting.

This appears to be the Marriage of Lars Wilholm Ogren and Lena Cajsa Svensdotter on January 12 1866.  I am curious about the birthdates at the right.  Lars seems to be May 10 1834,  I am having trouble with Lena Cajsa's birthdate.  Also the info below, is that related, and the locations, Degerbyn, and Rison?  This marriage is also after the birth of Sven, so that is interesting.
