Tedi Marie Schilling

Can anyone tell me about books written in English about Norrbotten or north Sweden?  I am especially interested in genealogy and history of Råneå and Nederkalix parishes, but I would appreciate knowing any about northern Sweden.
Tack så mycket!

May I suggest you contact the county library for Norrbotten, at Luleå folkbibliotek, Kyrkogatan 15, SE-971 79  LULEÅ, Sweden. They have good knowledge of the bibliography of Norrbotten.

Hej!  Tack for mentioning the book and author.  I am having trouble finding the books in the US to borrow.  Does anyone know if a library in US can borrow from another country?

Hej Tedi, If you ask your local library they will tell you, if the American libraries use international interlibrary-loans to borrow books from Europe. And if the customer/researcher has to pay for this service. You could also contact The Swenson Swedish Research Center at the Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. They have a very good selection of Swedish literature, and I hope they also have the above mentioned The people of the red barns. I am sure your local library or the nearest city library will lend you a hand in searching the books.

Thank you for your response.  Our local library is very small and did not know about borrowing from another country.  Maybe I will ask a larger or university library.  Do you know if the Swenson Swedish Research Center does interlibrary loans?  I can probably send them an email and find out.

You had better send an email to Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center, [Swenson Center], in Rock Island, in order to find out if they can help you with an interlibrary loan. If you are not a regular user, I am afraid the can not help you with an interlibrary loan. I think the best way is to ask the public library in your hometown or in the nearest larger city. You probably already know of the facilities at Family History Library - LDS in Salt Lake City.

Thanks again.  I did receive an email from the Swenson Center librarian that the book was available.  I submitted this information to the local library, so we will see!!

I just received a copy, through interlibrary loan, of Bitter BreadThe Famine in Norrbotten 1867-1868, Uppsalla Univ. 1988. WOuld you be interested in reading it?  It is from Clark University.
