My grandfathers birth record says he was illegitimate ("oäkta") .  His name was Karl August Efraim Karlsson, born 17 Nov 1872, in Virserum, Kalmar. His mother was Kristina Fredrika Johansdotter (1848-1911, from Virserum).  Karl Gustaf Svensson (1849-1932 from Målilla) married Kristina. A household record (1882-1886, page 119 for Gräntö, No. 1(?)) states they were married 7 Feb 1873, three months after Karl A. E. was born. I want to know if Karl Gustaf was the birth father. One way to find out is to do a DNA test on a living descendant (X) of a close relative of Karl Gustaf, who is NOT related to Kristina F. Karl G.'s father was Sven Peter Svensson (born 2(?) Feb  1804 in Virserum) .  Can't find siblings (who married) of Karl G., but his mother Anna Caterina Danielsdotter had plenty. Her parents and she are both at the top of the page in the attachment. So I need to find a descendant who has done a dna test with Ancestry.com, 23andme, or Familytreedna to see if we are related. Maybe I should have put this in the DNA section?

Thanks if anyone here knows they are descended from one of these ancestors of mine!

Richard.

Hello Richard!

There is no need to use a DNA-test!
The epithet "oäkta" disappeared when his mother got married. That means that Karl Gustaf Svensson is the father of Karl August Efraim! Otherwise the word "oäkta" was written in the churchbook as long he was part of the family.
You can also try to find the estate inventory for his parents. His mother died 1911-10-12 och his father 1932-0203.

Yes! The estate inventory confirmes that Karl Gustaf Svensson is the father.

Hej Birgitta. Inte nödvändigt att översätta Bouppteckning. Jag orkade själv. Tack så mycket i alla fall!
