Where does the surname 'Gullin' come from or what does it mean

hello, in the 'general questions' discussion I have made a topic because I am looking for Lars Gullin and Katarina Bolander from Visby.

question in this 'swedish names' : does anybody know where the name 'gullin' comes from or what it means?

I have relatives named Gullin and they are from Gullabo in Småland. Perhaps your relative comes from the same place?

hi Morgan, thank you. In Holland the people made their surname of the places where they lived, their profession etc. Was this in Sweden the same?

and do you pronounce the 'u' in Gullin like the 'o' in 'two' or like the 'i' in 'girl'

In 1880 I found 33 Gullin in Sweden. 10 were born in Guldrupe, so it must be the reason of the name Gullin.  Before 1900 it was usual for military and craftsman to take name of places. I think the pronounce is more like girl but not so open if you know what I mean. I have been thinking of english word with same pronounce but can´t find any.
