I'm new to this forum, and this is my first post so forgive my foibles and use of English. I have had problems getting to a place (any place) where I could post my question so sorry for posting it here.
I was drawn here by several comments made by Leif Tennare (I thank him for these entries) about the surname SLUK.
Last year, with some help, I was able to trace my direct paternal ancestry to Lauri Luukila (also known as Lauri Luuki) who lived at Haukipudas Finland c. 1450. A helpful source for this research is “The Luuki Family History” (a copy resides in my computer files) and it suggests that Lauri Luuki may have been also know by the Swedish Lars Sluuck with a possible connection to Sluk (or Sluki) on Åland Islands in the 1200s.
I have had my DNA tested (by several testing companies) and have found a very close “y-DNA” (male DNA) match with another American, John Suomela, with Finnish ancestry from Hailuoto Finland. John's research reveals that the earliest inhabitants of Hailuoto where Sluk and so this may be how we are related. I should say, we (John and I) have not found a common ancestor as of yet but it is farther back than 300-400 ybp.
I believe, if I read correctly, that Leif Tennare may be a descendant of Sluk. If Leif reads this, please contact me at rsilfven@bendcable.com as I have a proposal. I extend this to anyone (males) who believe they are descended from Sluk.
