Hej Peter,

Thank you so much for your speedy reply and answers and for clearing up a serious misapprehension of mine.  I had always thought that when I saw Bohlum  it meant Bolum, as so many words in the old days added an h that has been dropped today.  Is it only when it is Stomben Bohlum that it is Brunnhem Parish, or does any occurrence of Bohlum  mean Brunnhem?   This may clear up several other puzzles and may mean some revision of data if the latter is true.

Since Pehr was living in Brunnhem at the time of his marriage, the baptism of a Pehr Månsson 27 August 1687 in the Stenstorp Register (C:1, Bild 17, Sida 17)(Skattegård i Stenstorp, I believe, which came up as Skattegård Brunnhem when I Googled it yesterday)  may well have been his as the date is right for his approximate age at death. What would be your comment on that?

Again, tusen tack
Med vänlig hälsning

Martha

Arne,

Thank you very much for adding to this discussion.

As I understand it now, Per Månsson was born in Skattegård in Stenstorp, 1687; was living in Stommen in Bolum when he married in 1724; and was there when he died in 1744. (Yes, the latter two events are definitely my Per and the birth fits).

Kirsten was born about 1703 in Stenstorp (yr. in death record).  The only two possible births I can find (looking for several years both sides 1703) are in 1702, daughter of Johan, C:1, Bild 34, Sida 51 or the unnamed child of Jon Gunnarsson in 1703, living in (Brunnhem?) C:1 Bild 35, Sida52.  What is the abbreviation to the right of N: in that record? I don't find a death record for either up to 1710. Would the child of a Johan use the form Jon?  The Kirsten you mentioned is not this one.  Mine died in 1785 while living with her daughter Catharina in Lilla Backgården, Segerstad.

Catharina was a bit of a puzzle. Her three hfl records at Lilla Backgården all give her birth date as 1727 in Broddetorp.  I've searched numerous times 8 or 10 years before and after 1727 and in the other nearby parishes, and the only Catharina with the right set of parents was born in 1735 (20 May). Returning to it, I now see that they were living at Stommen in Bolum, so I'm satisfied finally it is the right birth. (C:2, Bild 166, Sida 348)

What would have been the meaning of Stommen in the 1700s? Was it simply a farm or village name?  Both my modern and an online download of a 19th century dictionary gave framework, unfinished house, etc.

This has been a very rewarding day as lots of problems have been resolved. Thank you again for your help.

Martha, I am really very sorry to have mislead you about Bolum Stommen.
Arne is right.

Regarding the meaning of stom, stommen, etc it corresponds to Boställe / Hemman
