Ulf, thank you so much. We are trying to figure out about my wife's great grandmother, Anna Pettersson. Especially why she didn't come to America with the rest of her family in 1894, and what she did during the time after her family left and she came over in 1903. We help from folks like you in this forum, and yesterday from staff at the Stockholm City Archives we have found so much. Looking at the modern map, it appears all of this is gone. Progress!

We have been trying to determine information about Hammarby Parish in Upplands-Vasby municipality. Our relative was raised in the Masons Childrens Home in Kristineberg, and in 1898 was taken from the home to be a maid for a woman whose address in the 1890 and 1900 census was "Kapellet" which we have translated to "chapel". We found the church online, and the information for the chapel says it was built in the 1960's. We would like to find the physical place she lived (Anna Pettersson) in the records at the 2 web addresses below. Was there a chapel before with an apartment and it was rebuilt in 1960? I am trying to follow Sven O. Dahlstrom through time with the Household examination books and I need some help determining what happens at the end of the 1879-1891 book. Did he go in the military? He is listed with many other people not from the same family, and I can't determine what the notes say. Here is the record I am struggling with. Sven is listed on lines 8 and 15. The notes on the 2nd half of the page on line 15 say what? https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0067434_00202This is page 248, and in the top left is the name of the farm or area he has moved to? Does it mean "Remaining", as in part of the parish, but no permanent home? He was a seaman? In the navy? Here are the other pages that list Sven from this same book. I need help with translating the record for Pehr Svensson, both May 15 1860. He is my wife's great-great grandfather Per Sjölin. It looks like his father was Sven Pehrsson and mother was Boel Svensdotter? I can make out a few words in the record, but not enough to understand what it all says. I think it might list their parents too and where they lived? What I have gotten from the record is he was born on May 15 and I assume baptized on May 16? Other questions: 1. Why Pehr on his birth record, but later on household surveys he is listed as Per? Interchangable? No difference? 2. Where did Sjölin come from? I don't see it here? I have more digging to do in the records of Per growing up, but is there a reason? Did parents just do this sometimes to distinguish from other Pehr Svensson's in the same parish? 3. Regarding question 2, in another branch of my wife's family, there are 8 children, 7 with the last name Dahlström, but the 8th last name Englund. Named at birth this way. I guess I have the same question about that. I want to say that the kindness and help I have gotten on this forum have far exceeded what I could have ever hoped for. Thank everyone who participates. We have learned so much, and know we have so much more to learn. We are coming to Sweden in less than a month, and honestly, because of the help we have received here, we have identified living relatives we plan to visit, and sites where my wife's ancestors lived and were buried. Thank you Hans. I still don't understand where to follow this record to. On the original page I posted ( https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/00124382_00048), it appears that a lot of people left the parish on 2 Aug 1945, which seems odd. Is that what it means or does it mean that after 2 Aug 1945, I should look in the new book on page 1166? I've attached the database records I can see in SA, and the record link in my original question was from Vol 7 in this image. I don't know how to find the "New Book" page 1166. Is it online? Thanks again for your help.

I am following my wife's family from the time her great grandfather Carl came to the United States in 1892, and we are trying to find cousins that are still in Sweden. We have traced Ann-Margret Hallman Roth, who was Carl's great niece to Helsingborg, where she married Bertil Roth in 1941, and had a daughter Ulla in 1942. We are slowly learning how to use the church records in the archives and have added much to our family tree when we have come across a page that is confusing. Usually it refers to a record for where they moved to, but in this case almost everyone on the page and the next page all have the exact moving date, which seems odd. Also, column 15 translates to "conscription Conditions" and I don't understand what 386 5/38, is referring to. I would very much appreciate an explanation of what happened to Ann-Margret and Ulla. Which brings me to my 2nd question. Since the archives available online stop in 1946, how can I find more information about Ulla? We are visiting Sweden in a few months and hope to find her or her family if they are still in the area. Is there a way to do that with the archives, or should we be considering a different approach? Thanks for any advice you can give.

Thank you so much, Anti! This is so interesting and helpful. My wife and I are coming to Sweden in March and are trying to learn as much about her family as we can so we can make the most of our time there. Carl Rudolf is her great grandfather. When he came to the U.S., Carl took the name Sjölin, after the family he grew up with. Sjölin is my wife's maiden name.

Attached is an image from a birth and baptism record. I know the witnesses are Nils and Hans Olsson, but what is Nils title, what are the words after their names, and in the notes, I think the first part is "The midwife gave....", but can't determine the rest. Also, what does "28, 2, 2 year" refer to?
I appreciate any help, trying to learn, but has been slow for me.

Leif, I am using Riksarkivet though I am not good at using it yet. I looked for several hours trying to find tax records there, but could not find anything. I don't think that means for sure that they are not there. thank you again, I will look into ArkivDigital.

Maud, thank you! I started researching my wife's family after she had a DNA test through Ancestry.com. I am learning quickly that I should be using their records for the initial information and then going to the Swedish Archives to see the originals. I am a beginner at using the archives, but I assume you knew to use the Höganäs parish books and then found this by searching on her death date?

The google translation to English was "Vice organic heart", so a bad heart?
I find the archives fascinating and can't wait to see them in person. Hopefully soon, my wife and I will make the trip. She is a Sjolin.

On the attached image, I have translated that Karin Elvira Viktoria Sjolin was a staff nurse and died at Helsingborg hospital, but need some help with the following:
1. Under her name description not sure what the "Viv Pershag" is, or if that is even correct?
2. Under what she died from, what did she die from?
3. Also under what she died from, what does the number represent and is it 3020B?

Here is where I get lost. Ann Margaret was born in "Fors", but that is part of Eskilstuna parish archives, we found her birth record there. So, I assumed that in the translation for the divorce where it mentions "Fors" that was in Eskilstuna, which is in Södermanland County.
I'm sorry for all of the questions, I appreciate your help.

Hi, this is my first post to the forum. Thank you for having such a space. I am researching my wife'f family, her great-grandfather and great-grandmother came to the United States from Sweden and met in Chicago and married in 1912. I am researching her family history and am just learning how to use all of the wonderful information that is available in the Swedish Archives. I've attached an image from a record (Höganäs kyrkoarkiv, Församlingsböcker, SE/LLA/13176/A II a/25 (1921-1939), bildid: 00123341_00016, sida 3013) and would like to know what the notes say on lines 4 and 5. Thank you for any help you can give.

Note: I know Bror Emil Hallman divorced his wife (line 4), just want to confirm that is what is said and if there is any additional information. Line 5 is their daughter, who was born in 1918, and moved in 1926 according to this record. I am trying to figure out where she went and to live with who. Her mother went to America in 1924, but the daughter stayed with her grandmother until 1926.
