Höppener, Höpner, Hoppener, Höpsfner is found in Stettin in 1600. Anna H. got then with merchant Peter Anthoni son also Peter Anthoni, later known as Peter Anthoni Lofeldt. The Borgå Höpner is distantly realated, sharing a fragment of DNA with the Finnish Antonies (Autosomal DNA), moving from Ingermanland to Finland. This small fragment does not give any final knowledge of the form of the family connection, related is right anyway.
Franciscus Antonius was the ancestor in Nyen, where the family lived latest in 1664. Though of Finnish Y DNA, this family has lived before in Pommern (uncertain) , Bavaria (certainly) and 1308-1400 (certainly) in Friuli, Amaro, Italy and then one branch in 1400 returned north, to Cracow and then via Livland to Ingermanland, Sweden and Finland.
Do you have any knowledge on possible Höpfner-Höppener connection with Pommern areas with or without Borgå?
The University of Greifswald has just reasently researched the Lofeldt history. Adelswapen has less information and has some mistakes, not yet corrected there. Peter Lofeltldt and the swordsmaster Franciscus lived for longer times in Ingermanland, both.

Hi Erkki!

This information is very interesting, and Fabricia actually sounds Italian, now that you mention it  ;D  My research regarding the Fabricius / Fabricia family name here in Skåne, in southern Sweden, shows that the name usually derives from craftsmen (fabricus in latin) during the 17th century, whose sons became priests and together adopted the name Fabricius to honor their father’s profession.

I suspect that there was a similar tradition further north in Sweden, but in some cases the families bearing the name Fabricius / Fabricia in Sweden during the 16th and 17th century may have Italian origins – hopefully some other Swedish genealogist has knowledge about this?

If you still would be interested, I am at the moment working with the Swedish military in the Baltic and have found two more Fabrici in the regiment. And, Fabrici is an Italian family name in Padua and Tuscany, in proper dates. In my research I have today found even more Italians in the Swedish Baltic regiments since about 1630ies.

Tack Markus!
Fabrici name is known in Padova during the proper dates. It has been really difficult to find any information about the Italians in Sweden though and they surely were in more relevant numbers since 1584 in the troops of Pontus de la Gardie, in Ingermanland and in attack against Novgorod. My wife´s ancestors lived in Nyen latest since 1665, before that in the western Livland, Pommern but also in the Polish areas as Gdansk and the Duchy of Courland. But, though the Dutch-Italian ancestry is known, the branch in the Swedish service were mercenaries. And I really do not exactly  know when our branch of the family arrived. One branch that descended of shipowners in Amsterdam and Padova arrived in mid 150ies into Riga. The most Italians in the Swedish Realm, if I am right, during the Age of Greatness were artists and craftsmen, some in service for de la Gardie family in Stockholm and in their  mansions in Livland and elsewhere in mainland Sweden. On Strozzi, Fabrici and Antonini I have found several Goyer/Goijer family during the 18th century Sweden, interesting for me as de Goyer (Gooijers) shares Autosomal DNA with all Antonini descendants in Finland. de Goijer, Goyer, Gooijers is found in Amsterdam and Breda, as Antoninis, one lady wed to Signore  Bernardo Antonini during 1680ies. The Antoninis in Nyen were found following the Dutch settlers, merchants and craftsmen and business peoples, and  soldiers. I have not found any research on Italian immigration at all. It may be, as with Antonini-Anthonini-Anthonius-Antonies they could be mixed with Dutch nationals, as the United Provinces got immigration from all Italy, also via the French ruled areas, not to mention the Polish-Italians as mercenaries changing for the Swedish due to the Swedish recruitment policies of the Carolin kings. 10 % of all  the mercenaries during the 30 Years´of War were of Italian origin, not to mention the thousands recruited in the Flanders armies of with some later changing for the Princes of Orange/United Provinces as several Antoninis in three generations. Thank you for your kind comment. Erkki

Hei, I have searched for Italians in Sweden during the late 16th and early 17th century. The name Fabris, Fabricia is interesting. Count Hieronümo Strozzi, in Sweden writes  in 1613 about the death of Geronimo Frazius (Ämnessamlingar, Riksarkivet). That Frazius is likely Fabris/Fabrici, the brother/cousin for the Italian sword master Salvatore Fabris who was in 1594 in Uppsala and in a legend connected with about 40 Italian swordsmen with a murder plan on Duke Charles, later King of Sweden. The murder was ordered by Sigismund III Vasa, but betrayed by Strozzi.
The letter in 1613 witnesses that Count Strozzi stayed back in Sweden where he also died later in 1619. I have understood that Strozzi was relative to Paul Klevenhüll, (1593-1655) who settled Sweden in Julita Gård. The Vienna living Strozzi had a Klevenhüll wife. This interesting as my wife descends from a Italian-Dutch swordsman Francesco de Antonini, one son of Giovanni di Antonini di Ceresetto o d´Olanda, first fighting in Breda with his father Adriano and brothers for the United Provinces and Princes of Orange, later found near Gdansk amongst Dutch. Francesco arrived Livland Swedish service likely during 1640ies and ended surely Stockholm in 1701-1702. His sons became guerilla and officers during the Great Northern War and ended as officers etc. in eastern Finland located homesteads for the Swedish army. It is about possible that Adriano di Antonini would have been involved (or other Antoninis) with the event in Uppsala. This explains my interest on Fabris. Salvatore Fabris died in Padua as a leader of a fencing school there (Rapier sword specialist). Geronimo stayed in Sweden, known by Strozzi, if I am right. All Antonini mercenaries were trained until Giovanni Antonini in this school, Adrianos sons were in Padua also during the dates of the death of Salvatore. So, is it possible that Fabricia has an Italian family origin from 16th century?

Hi,
Anthon, Anton, Anthonius, Antoni, Antoniny and Antonini are in my wife´s family ancestry, coming from Ingermanland, Nyen Skanss, then in 1701-1702 Francisco A. escaped as wounded to Sweden, a sword master, "swfäärdmästare" in Nyen after 1642 until 1701. In Stockholm after being widowed from his first when Nötheborg Castle was taken by the Russians, remarried there with Britha Catharina Grusson , who lost her first husband on the same day as F. his wife. B:s husband was the artillery smith of Nyen Skanss before sent to Nötheborg where he died. F. was of a merchant/mercenary family that dates back round early 14th century in Friuli and /or Trento, the latter following the family lineage via Amsterdam, Gdansk, Konigsberg, Riga to Ingermanland, path from Amsterdam under research now. The family is truly known in Finland as being in direct lineage before Professor Eric Anthoni(us, d.in 1978, specialist in Swedish and Finnish medieval history) and the ancestry well researched in Finland after the sons of. Francisco: Anders, Abraham, Jakob that were guerrillas in the Great Northern War until 1720 and  Captain Johan Anthonius recruited in Riga in 1700 by the Swedish. There is more Anthoni family in Pommern and in Ingermanland, and there should in Denmark as well. I have found only one other Anthoni as a refugee in Härnösand, a retired captain. Your discussion is really interesting. It may be that all the mercenary Anthonis from the Swedish Colonies, especially from Pommern could be of this  same family origin. If you are interested, I have just written a book with 80 pages of Anthonis, also some articles all in English.

Sfwäärdmästare i Nyen after 1642 ends till 1701, gift med Britha Catharina Grusson i Stockholm, 2. giftermål för både, F.A. Venetian Friulian Nobility, också I Trento. Släkten lever in Finland och använder n.

Ny research from Italy, Holland and Ingermanland, published in May 2021, an updated family tree soon available. F.A. found in Riksarkivet documents 1701-1702, family in Amsterdam in Archief Amsterdam, and in a new Italian research. Family researched in Finland from 1713 on. Family originally from Northern Germany, since late 13th century in Friuli, later in Trento and many areas in the Balkans and Belgium-Holland.
Will attach documents later.

Hei. Archief Amsterdam is easy to use in the Internet. I would begin to search with the family name. The other is the Netherlands archives, you find it with Google.

Hi Sivert.

The family is interesting as the religion was a delicate matter for the de Antoniny also during the late 17th century when the ancestor Franciscus de A. of the Finnish Anthonius, Anthoni family changed for the Lutheran faith. Franciscus became the ancestor for professor Eric Anthoni (d.1978) whose writings of the medieval and 16th century Nobility are still sold today in Riddarhuset in Stockholm for instance. I am at the moment trying to find out the path after Trento-Friuli areas via Amsterdam, Gdansk and Königsberg into Ingermanland -if I am at all right with this path. The Antoniny may have entered Sweden before (with the condottiere of family De La Gardie) even is possible that F. Is a descendant of those swordmen that arrived in 1594 aiming to murder Getting Carl with count Strozzi staying back in Sweden. F. was a Sfäärd mästare in Nyen, Ingermanland.

Italien / Antoniny, Antonini,Antonius, Antonij, Anthonius
« skrivet: 2021-07-02, 05:08 »
Francesco de Antoniny came into Nyenskanss, Ingermanland between 1644-1665, not directly from Italy but is recorded of  family from Italy in Stockholm at least in 1701-1702 by Riksarkivet documents. His sons became guerillas of the Great Northern War. With the spelling Antoniny is found one family in Amsterdam, as in business with Königsberg and Gdansk i.e. Prussian areas during the 17th century. This family is from Trento and/or Friuli on side of the Republic of Venice. Had also business in Padova and their ships sailed into Africa as well. The family is found in the Archief Amsterdam, but Francesco may have born in Gdansk or Königsberg. Antonius and Antonini are found later in Riga. There one of the sons entered the Swedish regiments, the other three from Ingermanland, two surely from the Nyen City. Francesco remarried in1702 with Catharines Grusson in Stockholm. From there in Sweden I have not found a trace after 1702. F. changed to Lutheran faith in Ingermanland. Does anybody have any information with this family name in the Baltic areas and Sweden. Finland is researched and known.

Hi, Pinello is found in the House of Nobility in Finland registers, Giovanni Battista Pinello, easiest in Carpelan writing of the people in written in the house of Nobility. Family no 135, pages 818-819.  Perhaps you have this already? His family lost property in Genova due to religion change.

Vadmenade Eric A., fruarna eller man Anthinis? Men läser ju bra Svenska mm.
