General questions / Help reading a marriage record
« skrivet: 2022-11-21, 20:28 »
I am seeking help in reading the marriage record for Jöns Larsson and Ingeborg Andersdotter.

https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0039944_00239
Bokenäs kyrkoarkiv, Födelse- och dopböcker, SE/GLA/13041/C/2 (1769-1818), bildid: C0039944_00239, sida 438

I can only make out 14 (the date of the announcement/banns?) Jöns Larsson Bjallanda, Ingeborg Andersdotter Röback, 10 November 1783, and what I am most intersted in, 10 June 1784, wife of Olof Andersson Röback. 25 Jan 1785 (date of the actual wedding?).

Olof Andersson was married to Ingeborg Andersdotter see Husförhörslängder Bokenäs 1781
https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0039922_00210
Bokenäs kyrkoarkiv, Husförhörslängder, SE/GLA/13041/A I/1 (1766-1781), bildid: C0039922_00210, sida 15

But three years later Olof is missing with no record of his death.
https://sok.riksarkivet.se/bildvisning/C0039923_00032
Bokenäs kyrkoarkiv, Husförhörslängder, SE/GLA/13041/A I/2 (1784-1787), bildid: C0039923_00032, sida 45

Olof's youngest child was born December 1782, so something must have happened to him between the time she was conceived (approximately March of 1782) and Ingeborg's marriage to Jöns Larsson in November of 1784.

Any and all help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

General questions / Help with a household exam
« skrivet: 2022-03-05, 23:27 »
Greetings,

I have found one of my ancestors listed at the end of the attached household exam (Skorpeds kyrkoarkiv, Husförhörslängder, SE/HLA/1010179/A I/4 (1840-1847), bildid: C0033452_00156, sida 139) under Prästgården. What is it? Does it have something to do with the church? I tried translating it to English and it comes up as "Presbytery". There is also something written at the top before the names of residents which I am unable to translate. What does it say?

Any help greatly appreciated.

General questions / Help with death record
« skrivet: 2021-12-28, 21:07 »
Greetings,

I am seeking help with the death record for Anders Bryngelsson born 1726. It is very difficult for me to translate as the handwriting is poor and my Swedish is limited.
Bokenäs kyrkoarkiv, Husförhörslängder, SE/GLA/13041/A I/1 (1766-1781), Image ID: C0039922_00056, page 17 shows him as having died (image attached).
I think that the record is located at
Bokenäs kyrkoarkiv, Födelse- och dopböcker, SE/GLA/13041/C/1 (1686-1768), Image ID: C0039943_00309, page 628 (image attached where he appears to have died at the same time as two others).

Two questions, first, is this the right person?
Second, if so, what does the record say (other than he died in March of 1766).

Any and all help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings,
I am seeking help with the notes for Jacob Olsson 1767 on Käringöns kyrkoarkiv, Husförhörslängder, SE/GLA/13307/A I/1 (1787-1848), Image ID: C0041430_00130, page 5 (attached).
There is something about a (?).."bevis".. "Skredvicks"..(kyrkobola?).."död" (evidence, Skredvicks, died).
Any help you can give me in making sense of the notes would be greatly appreciated.

General questions / Help with a marriage record
« skrivet: 2021-01-31, 00:56 »
Greetings,
I am seeking help with the marriage record for Jacob Olofsson and Anna Jönsdotter, Morlanda kyrkoarkiv, Födelse- och dopböcker, SE/GLA/13376/C/3 (1781-1802), Image ID: C0041694_00151, page 282 (attached).
I am not able to make out where Olof is from (Stora? ??). Anna is from Käringön. Is the title for Olof an occupation or simply saying he is an unmarried man?
Any help greatly appreciated.

General questions / Seeking help with notes on a household exam
« skrivet: 2021-01-30, 21:46 »
Greetings,
I am seeking help with the notes on a household exam for Jacob Olofsson and Anna Jönsdotter (attached). Käringöns kyrkoarkiv, Husförhörslängder, SE/GLA/13307/A I/1 (1787-1848), Image ID: C0041430_00079, page 27
I see Anna listed as fattige (poor/pauper) with 2 til 5 (?) written next to it. What does that mean? The years she was considered poor? In this case 1802 till 1805? And was only Anna listed as poor or the entire family? I see one son and Anna's mother have passed away during this time.
I am also curious if Käringöns kyrkoarkiv, Husförhörslängder, SE/GLA/13307/A I/1 (1787-1848), Image ID: C0041430_00042, page 1 shows the number of families and population for Käringön for the year 1792.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

General questions / Help reading a death record
« skrivet: 2021-01-23, 22:28 »
Greetings,
I am seeking the death record of Jöns Christensson of Käringön. Someone else has his date of death as 29 May 1769. I am seeking to confirm it. I have located the record in question but the writing is hard for me to read. I have attached the record. Morlanda kyrkoarkiv, Födelse- och dopböcker, SE/GLA/13376/C/2 (1745-1780), Image ID: C0041693_00240, page 453
If this is the correct person, could you make anything more out of it? It appears as though both he and the man below, Jacob Larsson, both has something happen to them on the 4th of Jun that led to their death.
Any and all help greatly appreciated!

General questions / Help translating a sentence.
« skrivet: 2020-11-22, 23:18 »
I am seeking help translating a sentence into English regarding one of my ancestors who fought at Poltava in 1709 and was taken prisoner. The sentence is,
Fången 1709-06-28 vid Poltava “under återtåget från upptagsställningen i skogen till gardesskansen”.
Google translates it as either,
Prisoner 1709-06-28 at Poltava "during the retreat from the shooting range in the forest to the guard post".
or
Prisoner 1709-06-28 at Poltava "during the retreat from the uptake position in the forest to gardesskansen".
The context is as follows.
“Gen. Roos and six battalions (one-third of the Swedish infantry) became isolated while attempting to take the third Russian redoubt. After suffering severe casualties from several assault attempts, Roos led the remaining 1,500 of his original 2,600 men into the Yakovetski woods to the east at 6:00 a.m. The Russians reoccupied the first two redoubts and launched a two-pronged attack by ten regiments around 7:00 a.m., forcing Roos to retreat towards Poltava and take refuge in an abandoned fort by 9:00 a.m. when he could not make it to the Swedish siege works. Roos was forced to surrender his command at 9:30 a.m.” (Wikipedia)
In his book “The Battle That Shook Europe, Poltava and the birth of the Russian Empire”, Peter Englund states that during the retreat from the redoubts the Dalecarlians (of which my ancestor served as a Captain) were deployed as a screen as the others attempted their escape. He states, “The Dalesman, deployed to the rear and left, prevented the Russian Calvary from tying the knot in the sack. Their stand kept an escape route open to the south for the men trying to save themselves by flight. Most of those not killed or captured were washed away in a feverish general bolt down a large and many-branched ravine, running immediately behind the initial defensive position.”
Does it make sense, given what we know happened historically, that my ancestor was captured during this time, and if so, how should the sentence in question be properly translated?
This is something I have wondered for a long time. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

I am seeking help with the family record for Catharine Andersdotter 1765 Varnums kyrkoarkiv, Husförhörslängder, SE/VA/13614/A I/2 (1763-1768), Image ID: C0039242_00047, page 36 attached. Her parents are Anders Johansson 1720 and Agneta Jonsdotter 1725. My questions are as follows, would Johan Andersson 1694 and Kerin Svensdotter (spelling ?) be Anders Johansson's parents? And what happened to the family? Did they die off? I am unable to find the english translations for the words written down on the the right hand side of the ledger. It appears at first glance that many of them died off during the years 1765 and 1766. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

It appears to read Södra Ueden? But I am unable to find it. What does it say after the parish name? And if I am reading the record correctly it states that banns were on the 18th of April and the marriage on 23 June? The birth record for her (24 Nov 1829) is not available so I am trying to track her back to her home parish and hopefully find her in the household exam with her family. I am seeking help with the notes on the household exam for Johanna Sophia Dalberg (Dahlberg) on Viksjö AI 4 page 76 (attached). I can read (but correct me if I am wrong) that she arrived from Ljustorp in 1836 and that she was born in Stockholm. Date of birth is listed as 18/11 1810 (questionable). Her illegitimate daughter Carin is with her; born Stigsjö 10/11 1839. I cannot translate the notes on the far right of the page, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding her date of birth, the earliest record I can find for his is from Ljustorp AI 3 page 56 (attached). Here it lists her date of birth as 4/11 of 1810. I wonder if there was confusion with the Johanna born 18/10 1810 who is listed just above her. Thoughts? Also, what occupation is she listed as? It is not piga, is that due to her age (as she would have only been 12 years old in 1822 which is the date I believe the records starts at for her on this page). Any help would be greatly appreciated regarding this matter. How does a 12 year old girl get from Stockholm to Ljustorp? A mystery indeed.

No citations are given so I am trying to verify if this is true or not. Also, are the notes for dotter Olena 1805 clear enough to figure out? The last person listed is Ingaborg Andersdsotter (she is the mother of Anna Olsdotter 1782), I believe that it reads "Käringön" in the notes, am I correct? Thanks.

General questions / Help reading household exam

I am trying to back track my great-great grandfather's footsteps to hopefully find his parents but am stuck trying to read the notes on Torpa AI:10 image 53 page 82 (see attachment). Here we find Niclas Petersson born 1807 in Torpa, came into Torpa (18??) from (I cannot read this parish). He left for Göteborg in 1834 person number 17. He leaves with his first wife who is listed below (I come from the marriage with his third wife). The birth records for Torpa in Ålvsborgs and Halland have been searched without success. I am trying now to back track his life as a last ditch effort to find out more on him. I have also attached the outgoing record incase there is any information there that you feel would be of any value in my search (Borås B:2 image 84 attached).

Thanks

Swedish language / Help translating parish record notes.
« skrivet: 2019-02-05, 19:31 »

I have been stuck for several days trying to translate notes on two parish church records. The first is regarding the notes on line 23 from Götebrogs Oscar Fredriks AIIa:33 image 171 line 23 (see attachment). What has he not been absolved from, and where did he move to. The notes appear to say "7th" something. And it looks like he moves to someplace called "Vasa Varden" but I cannot find anything close to that.

The second note (see attachment) is from Göteborgs Oscar Fredriks AI:20 page 2657 (same individual). On line 3 what is "Le Ankönslängden!" mean? I believe the additional notes are simply carried over from a previous parish record in which he was sentenced on Feb. 1 1882 for first time burglary to two years loss of citizens rights in addition to six months penalty. Then on Oct. 9 1884 for fourth time theft to four years hard labor and loss of citizens rights for five more years.

I am stuck and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Swedish language / What is "Socknens Slut" and "Lösa Personer"
« skrivet: 2019-01-31, 18:38 »

Greetings,
I am seeking help regarding words in a household exam. Bokenäs AI:15 page 162 reads Socknens Slut. Is this a page for listing people without a permanent home? It also says Fattige (pauper) is this an actual location or simply a record of poor people? Also, are pages 163 and 164 still a part of Socknens Slut? Page 163 reads (as best as I can tell) Lösa Personer. What is a Lösa Personer, a missing person?

Many thanks.

I am in need of help locating a location referenced in a marriage record. Dragsmark C:1 Sida 334 for Olof Jacobsson and Anna Olsdotter, Feb 1 1803. It appears to read Myran under Klåtsen(?). Does anyone know where this location can be found? I have tried finding it but have come up empty. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General questions / Help with death record
« skrivet: 2019-01-29, 18:44 »
I am asking for help reading the death record for Olof Jakobsson in Bokenas C:3 Bild 101. Died 13 Aug 1827 buried Aug 19. I am hoping it will give information for me to find him in the Bokenas household exam. Someone else has him listed as the father of the Elias Olsson 1802 listed in Bokenas AI:8 309 (Torp Bredvik). I want to verify or rule him out. Thanks.

General questions / Help translating household exam
« skrivet: 2019-01-26, 00:24 »

I am in need of help translating and interpreting the attached household exam. Bokenäs AI:15 page 127.
On the top of the page is listed Kjerstin Jacobsdotter 10/7 04 with three of her daughters, Oleana Eliasdotter 25/4 30, Anna Charlotta Eliasdotter and Helena Eliasdotter. Do the notes say they moved out to pages 162 and 164 in 1852 (I can't tell if they are coming or going)? They are listed again on the same page under Olaus Persson. Kjerstin Jacobsdotter, Oleana Eliasdotter, Helena Eliasdotter and Johanna Maria "Andersdotter". Do the notes say Kjerstin came back in from page 162 in 1854? And what do the notes say for Olean Eliasdotter (who is listed three times on the page) and her illegitimate daughter Johanna Maria? And am I reading it correctly that it says "Andersdotter"? Because Johanna Maria (Andersdotter?) was apparently born in Bokenas, why can I not find her listed in the parish birth records? Did it happen at times that illegitimate children were not recorded? Oleana is my great-great grandmother. Kjerstin is my great-great-great grandmother.
Thank you for any help in deciphering this record. I greatly appreciate it.

General questions / Help Translating Birth Record
« skrivet: 2018-12-21, 19:06 »

Greetings,

I am in need of help translating the birth record for Josefina Charlotta born 13 May, 1860, Goteborg (baptized May 15th). I found her in Bokenäs C/5 (1861-1875) page 7. I know she was illegitimate and that her mother was Oleana Eliasdotter. I am unable to read or translate the rest of the entry. Does it say who the father was? Does the far right column give the parish from where more information can be found? Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

General questions / Help translating notes on marriage

I need help in translating notes regarding the marriage of a Elias Olsson and Kerstin Jacobsdotter July 21, 1836 on Bokenäs C3 Bild 82. At the birth of their first child (Oleana Eliasdotter) in 1830 they were not married but made a promise to (Bokenäs AI:8 Page 308). Did it take six years?

I am in need of help translating the notes for Kjerstin Jacobsdotter on line 27 Bokenäs AI:17, page 89, and line 28 Bokenäs AI:18 page 89. It appears that after the death of the man she was staying/living with dies her daughter moves moves out and Kjerstin moves to Norway. Is that correct? And if so what year did she emigrate?

Thank you.

I am not able to translate where Lilly Heneritta Constintina Peterson moves to on Göteborgs Gustavi B1:3 page 482. I know “fattig” = poor, but can’t decipher the rest. Was it some type of poorhouse?

Could you also please tell me the cause of her death listed on Göteborgs Gustavi F9 image 68 (she died 24 Nov 1891). I think it was a lung infection?

Thanks

I would greatly appreciate help translating the birth record of my great-grandmother Anna Charlotta Peterson. She is number 940 on the attached birth record. I can read the names of her parents (Niklas Peterson and Oleana Eliasdotter) but am unsure if it says that Niklas was a former artillery man (retired military). Also, where do I locate the household exam for them? Is that “C 648” significant (it might not be “C”)?

Thanks

General questions / Help with translation of Household Exam
« skrivet: 2018-06-29, 04:18 »

I have been trying for over a quarter century to track down my great-grandmother Anna Charlotta Peterson. I think I may have found her on the attached household exam record but cannot read it.
Anna Charlotta Peterson is on line 6 and it lists her birth place as Gust Dkfs. What parish is this? Can you tell anything else from the record? I know that she reportedly came from GothenBurg och Bohus, Sweden and came to America around 1889-1890. I have her birth date as 07 November, 1880. Her mother's name was Charlotte Peterson, and her father was unknown. She knew my great-grandfather in Gothenburg before they emigrated to America and I have found him living in Gothenburg during this time. I tried to find out information on her for my grandmother before she passed away (without success), and now my mother is 85 and she is very interested in knowing more about her grandmother.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
