Thanks for your research, Kristina, but several years ago I researched Carl Gustaf Adolf Swanson in quite a bit of depth. As I live in the Twin Cities, MN, metro area, it was easy for me to go to MNHS for death certificates for him and his children. I thought I had an obit from the Taylors Falls, MN, newspaper, but can't lay hands on it at the moment. From his death certificate, I know he was buried in the Franconia Cemetery, down Hwy 8 from Shafer toward T F. I have a 1916 plat map of Shafer Township with the probable farm location and a couple of items that show his family as members of Trinity Lutheran Church, T F. I've previously connected with a descendant of his who provided information about the Swanson children that his grandmother had (I believe she was a granddaughter of Carl).

Like you, I tried Swanson/Swenson for August. I may try to contact the descendant to see if he has anything about August. To my knowledge, none of Carl and August's sisters emigrated. Yes, Carl and August's parents died a little less than a month apart (I'm a volunteer researcher for our MN Swedish Genealogy group, so I'm on Arkiv Digital frequently).

The address for (Sven) August is in the 1911 directory I have in my shoebox, so my curiosity is satisfied. I found him in the 1910 census living just south of downtown Minnepolis; many apartment buildings in that area (across I-94 from the Convention Center). I also found him in south Minneapolis, along with HIlda and Ralph, in the 1920 census under the surname that was erroneously written as Manuon. The family lived in a different part of south Minneapolis in the 1930 census. He was quite a bit older than Hilda.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Thank you, Sven, for directing me to Riksarkivet. I found the letter, but, unfortunately, it did not contain a specific destination in America for A W Magnusson of Nydala Kronoberg.

Kristina, I accept your explanation and thank you for it. One tries leads that don't always yield the desired result. I will correct my tree. I had found a Declaration of Intention for an August Magnusson, b. 9 Jun 1864, and his birthplace was written as 'Wixa'. While I knew the birth date was 10 days different than that for August Wilhelm (and as you did, I had already found that his 19 Jun 1864 birth date in Växjö landsförsamling AI:14 was written as 19 Sep 1864 in AI:15 and subsequent H.E.R.), and I knew the emigration years were different, I had hoped that 'Wixa' might have been Wexio. Do you know if 'Wixa' was a farm in Öja parish? I looked in a couple of the Öja church books, but didn't see this place.

I am also curious about the Minneapolis address you found in the estate inventory and wonder if you would be so kind to provide it to me? Sven August had several addresses in Minneapolis and I would like to satisfy my curiosity.

And now I am back to trying to find A W Magnusson in America. I am using August, Wilhelm, and even William and various forms of August, in the hope that I can find him.

Hej,

I have been researching my Swedish ancestors and relatives for a number of years, but I recently came across the above database index on Ancestry.com. I had never seen it before. Apparently letters from Swedes were collected by the Larsson brothers and are stored in Göteborg.

I have an Archive Call Number (2:1883:M13) for a distant relative (August Wilhelm Magnusson, b. 19 Jun 1864, Växjö Landsförsamling) and I would like to obtain a copy of his letter(s). I am trying to verify if an August Magnusson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, for whom I have incomplete information, is the same person. Can someone tell me if images are available and, if so, to whom I might direct a request for an electronic copy/copies?

Tack så mycket!

General questions / Gunnar Fredrik Dahlström
« skrivet: 2022-05-20, 23:54 »
Hello from Minnesota,

I am a volunteer researcher for the Swedish Genealogical Society of Minnesota. I have been helping two former University of Minnesota professors as they prepare an application to have a former synagogue in Minneapolis placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The reason is Gunnar Fredrik (b. 18 Jan 1900, Malmö Caroli) had immigrated to Minnesota in the 1920s and then opened an interior design business: Dahlström and Weinberger. He did interiors for movie theaters, but he also designed the interior of this former synagogue.

Gunnar had siblings who did not come to America and we know he made some trips to Sweden during his life, perhaps bringing some of his design paintings with him to leave there. The professors are seeking images of these paintings in order to add them to the application.

Does anyone know if Gunnar Fredrik is known in Sweden and if his design paintings are displayed anywhere in the country?

Best regards,
Martin Remus

Hej!

Peter Svensson Fri(e)s, f. 02 nov 1823, Gårdsby
Gustaf Svensson Fri(e)s, f. 17 dec 1830, Gårdsby

Hej

Anna Olofsdotter, f. 26 juni 1811, Skällvik.  Hon flyttade från Söderköping till Norrköping Sankt Olai 5 Nov 1832, Hållhaken, Kalleras Hammarqvist (AI:28, sid 46).  Jag vet inte var hon gick nästa.

Hennes syster hette Stina Olofsdotter, f. 17 oktober 1818, Skällvik.

Tack

Hej Sonja!

Förlåt min svenska.  Jag bor i USA.  För Wendla Maria Svensdotter:

1900 United States Census (juni): Levde i Sac City, Jackson Township, Sac County, Iowa, USA, med hennes man och dotter Ellen.  Hon var gifte sig med August kanske 1892.
1910 United States Census (april): Levde i Albert City, Fairfield Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa, med hennes man och dotter Ellen.
Wendlas mor levde här också; 80 års; enkan; Wendela Sofia Johansdotter i sverige men i USA hon hette Vendla Sophia Olson (hennes man hette Sven Peter Olofsson); modren kom till USA 1899; död 2 dec 1912; begravda Fairfield Cemetery, Albert City.
1920 United States Census (januari): Levde i Albert City med hennes man (Orchard Street)
1925 Iowa Census, 1836-1925 (januari): Levde i Albert City med hennes man
Iowa Cemetery Records: Vendla Maria Lindell (begravda Fairfield Cemetery, Albert City)
