Thanks Mats, that is great news! Nils' sister-in-law...My great grandmother, Katarina JOHANNA (Sahlin) Hellström (aka: Hällström/Halstrøm/Halstrom) emigrated to Kansas in July 1893 after my great grandfather Jakob (Nils' brother) died. I have not been able to find any record from Ellis Island of her arrival in the U.S. along with my grandfather, Abraham George, and his 3 siblings. I know they left Trondheim, Norway on 12 Jul 1893 aboard the Dominion Line ship Juno to England. Could they also have entered by way of Quebec?

Request help finding where my great grand uncle Nils Abram Hellström b. 9 Aug 1863, his wife Ida Carolina and son entered the U.S. and where they settled in 1892, one year before my widowed great grandmother and grandfather emigrated to Kansas. I didn't know my great grandfather Jakob Hellström had a brother. Thanks. Jack Howe Chesapeake, Virginia, USA

Greetings Everyone, I am researching my mother's Swedish ancestry and would like to find information regarding any descendants of the brother's and sister of my Great-Grandfather (mf f) Jakob Abram(sson) Hellström (aka: Hällström) born 8 Mar 1854, Holmstrand, Helgum parish. I believe Jakob had one sister, Marta Lisa born 2 Jan 1857 and two brothers, Isak born 24 Sep 1860 and Nils Abram born 9 Aug 1863, probably all in Holmstrand. Can anyone help finding their marriages, children, grandchildren, etc? I hope to use this information as the basis for searching for cousins now living in Sweden. (I type in English and use Google translation to convert to Swedish.) Best Regards, Jack Howe Chesapeake, Virginia, USA

Hej Annelie, I will be glad to provide you with all the Rudeen (Johansson) family information I have. It's funny. I just emailed my mom's cousin, Beverly, another grand-daughter of Samuels, who still lives in Kansas about uncle Gus. She answered today saying that the State of Kansas has been holding a $65 refund due to Emily for many, MANY years and was looking for a relative to send it to. Maybe she will split it with me Samuel and his wife Benhardina (Johansson) Floberg (aka: Betty) emigrated together (along with her parents) in 1881, married in 1887 and had 5 children. Ellen (my grandmother), Verner, Dora, Esther and Anna (Beverly's mom). I will gather all the descendant info and email to you. See you on FB too. Regards, Jack

Hej Mats, thanks again. I knew there was also a Carl Johansson (aka: Rudeen) that emigrated but didn't know his exact relation to the others. That was a future question I had not even asked yet! You are a mind reader. I just noticed some posts up the page (4/24/2007) from Dan Karlsson and Christina Helmby that also mentions my Great-Gr-Gr-Grandparents, Johan Olsson & Kersti Svensdotter. Some new puzzle pieces to play with Best Regards, Jack

Tack så mycket Mats! That is wonderful news. My mother's first cousin, now 80 years old, a grand daughter of Sam, remembers Uncles Gus & Fred well but never knew about Anders (nor did I until a short time ago). She will be very excited to learn more about him. I wonder how he felt when all his brothers left for America. My goal is to locate some living cousins still in Sweden. I found 2 already down a different line but quite distant. Thanks again. Jack

Hej all, I recently discovered information about my great grandfather, Samuel Johansson who emigrated in 1881, through Anbytarforum members (and Thanks!) I am now hoping to find emigration departure dates/places for my great grandfather's three brothers, all born in Grolanda parish, Skaraborgs län, they are: Anders Johansson b. 6/28/1845; Gustaf Johansson b. 1/11/1848; and Walfrid Johansson b. 5/22/1863. I know that Gustaf and Walfrid (Uncles Gus & Fred) emigrated to Axtell, Kansas as my mother would talk fondly about them when she was a little girl in the 1920's & 30's. (My great grandfather Samuel, & his brothers Gus & Fred all assumed the name Rudeen (Ruhdin/Rudin) after arriving in the U.S.) I don't know if the oldest brother, Anders emigrated as no mention was ever made of him. Can anyone help in finding the emigration dates (parish departure) and/or sailing dates/port for any of these three brothers, or what happened to Anders if he did not emigrate? Thank you in advance. Best regards, Jack Howe, Chesapeake, Virginia, USA

Thank you Olle, Eva (and Bo for your earlier post). That information helps solve one of the family mysteries. I am quite new to researching genealogy online and have much to learn about using the many resources other than asking questions here. Best regards, Jack

Hi Eva. Yes. My post was intended to learn the name of the ship upon which they sailed, specifically to identify the port in which they entered the U.S. The personal information provided by Bo was included to help in matching the people to a possible ship passenger list. Regards, Jack

Hej all, My greatgrandmother, Benhardina (Betty) Johansdotter (Floberg) b. 12/6/1868 Göteve, Skaraborgs län, her parents, Johannes Johansson (Floberg) b. 6/19/1819 Gökhem, Ska. & Katarina Vilhemina (Mina) Adamsdotter (Floberg) b. 1839 Eriksberg, Älvsborg län emigrated from Trävattna, Ska. to Kansas, USA 8/26/1881 and are believed to have sailed from Göteborg on or about 9/16/1881. I would like to learn what ship(s) they sailed on, which US port they arrived in, and when. The family story is that Betty's future husband, Samuel Johansson Ruhdin (Rudeen) emigrated along with them. I would like to try to confirm that if possible. Thanks in advance. Hej everyone, I am looking for any information about my maternal great-grandmother (mormors mor) Benhardina (Bettie) Floberg and her parents (min mormors morfar), Johannes Floberg and (min mormors mormor), Mina (?). Bettie was born 12/6/1868 in Göteveds parish, Skaraborgs län and emigrated to the U.S. in 1881 with her parents and future husband, Samuel Rudeen (Ruhdin) whom she married in 1887 and settled in Axtell, Kansas, USA. Does anyone have information on the date/port they departed from, the ship(s) upon which they sailed, their port of entry to the U.S. (or Canada)? I would also love any information on Johannes Johansson and Mina, for which I have none. (birth dates/places, their parents, etc.) I know I ask for much. Any pieces to this family puzzle will be much appreciated.

Judy & Bo, Judy - sorry we're not related thru the Löfgren's, maybe next time. Bo - I wonder if the trip was booked through Dominion, with the first leg using Juno of the Wilson line and then they boarded either the S/S Vancouver or S/S Sarnia of the Dominion line that sailed from Liverpool and arrived at Quebec, Canada on either 7/24 or 7/28/1893. And NO... I never knew GGF Jakob had a brother that emigrated. I knew he had other relatives but I had no info on any of them. Thanks again for the GREAT information! Jack

Bo...our posts passed like ships in the night. But yes, my grand uncle Verner lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota and I remember visiting him and grandaunt Hilma (Lindberg) there in the 1960's. That 1941 date is about the same time as my grandfather George obtained an Utdrag av Födelse- och Dopbok, (on Sept 27, 1941) probably needed to prove identity & relationship with my greatgrandmother Katarina after her death in 1940. Thanks once again! Jack

Thanks so much Judy for the quick and info-packed reply! I lived on Governors Island (when it was a USCG base) in NY harbor, directly across from Ellis & Liberty Islands in the late 1980's. Unfortunately, that was before I inherited all the genealogy stuff accumulated over the last 300 years. I've seen several variations on the spelling of our Hellström family name and had never seen the patronymic Jakobsson inserted in the name in any other papers, although it makes sense since my G-GF was Jakob. Do you think there is any correct spelling, or would they all be interchangable? I've seen Hällström in a bible entry written in Katarina's hand, Hellström and Hellstrom on my grandfathers Birth & Christening book extract, Hallstrom in a newspaper clipping, Halstrom for grandfather George, and Holstrom for granduncle Verner. I'm a true novice using genealogy web sites...this being my 2nd post at Anbytarform. (Yesterday was my first.) and I've never heard of the Emibas CD. But I'm learning more every day. Thanks again! Oh, and before closing, I see you have a Löfgren interest. I do too. Any link to Eric Löfgren b. 1726 in Ramsele parish, or his sons Henric b. 1764, or Israel b. 1765 in Helgumsby, Helgum parish? Jack

Hej all! My great-grandmother, Katarina Johanna (Sahlin) Hällström (aka: Hallstrom/Hellström/Hellstrom/Halstrom) born Feb. 27, 1859 at Forsmo, Edsele Parish, Västernorrlands Län. Her husband, Jakob Abraham Hellström died Jan 6, 1892 at Holmstrand, Helgum Parish (same County/Province). Widow Katarina emigrated to the U.S. on July 1, 1893 along with her four children: my grandfather Abram Georg (George Halstrom in U.S.), granduncle Isak Werner (Verner Holstrom in U.S.), grandaunts Ester Marg. Elisabet (Esther) and Ädla Georgina Johanna (Edla). (I don't know the last names used by the aunts in the U.S. prior to their marriages.) Upon arrival in the U.S. they immediately headed for the Swedish Settlement, a farming community in Marshall County, Kansas (near towns of Vliets & Axtell). Katarina remarried to Christian Boman (Bowman), also a Swedish immigrant. I would like to know if anyone can identify the Swedish port from which they departed on 7/1/1893, the ship(s) upon which they sailed during their travels, and their date of arrival in the U.S. I was told by the archive folks at Ellis Island that the arrival records for that time period were destroyed in a fire many years ago. Thanks in advance for any information.

Hej all, This is my FIRST post at Anbytarforum. I am searching for any information about my great-grandfather (mormorfar) Samuel Johan(n)son Ruhdin (Rudeen in USA) born 15 August 1857 at Grolanda, Skaraborgs Län. He emigrated to the US in 1881 accompanied by his future wife, Benhardina Johannson Floberg (Bettie Margaret Floberg in USA) born 6 December 1868 at Göteveds, Skaraborgs Län, and her parents Johannes and Mina Floberg. I believe I have a page from a church book in Kansas that shows Samuel Intagen 7 Mars 1885, Inflyttad från: Trävattna anxFor (??) and Bettie Intagen 2 Mars 1889, Inflyttad från Gökhem Skb,län. Could it be that they did not officially leave their churches in Sweden until well after they came to the US? I would like to learn the names (or any information available) of Samuel's parents, and siblings, and if possible the origin of the name Ruhdin (Rudin/Rudeen). I will ask questions regarding the Floberg's separately. I know I am asking a great deal, but any information concerning my great-grandfather would be much appreciated.
