Being noble and having a title which might qualify you for a position in the army was not much use during the 19th century when peace had come particularly if your family seat was small and not very productive. Money was often scarce. Many younger sons chose to emigrate. They had the advantage over the ordinary labourer of having an education and often of having an army training and the ability to organise.
Then of course, we doubtless had our fair share of black sheep who were exported and not missed much!
