The above Nils Persson Stenqvist, born 1857-12-17 who emigrated in 1888, was like his brother Johannes, living in Gårdsjöberg, Värmland at the time of emigration.

Is it possible that Nils Persson Stenqvist changed his last name after arriving to the U.S and chose the name Sjöberg (later Shuberg) after his home village Gårdsjöberg? I know it says in the 1900 U.S census that he was born in December 1859, not in December 1857 but who knows? The reason I ask is because his brother Anders Persson Stenqvist, born 1864 married a Tilda Maria Svensson (not Hilda). They both lived in Medelpad at the time of their death.
