Hi Debbie, the SS Pavonia docked in Boston on 2 April 1888, there are several Carl Anderson's who were on board but I don't see any who were the correct age, though it's possible he might have told them he was older than 16. The ship's manifest doesn't give very much information, just the name, age, country of citizenship, occupation, and destination in the US.
