He probably just decided to use Lind as his name, you could take any name before 1901. He added the name while in Utö, in Nor (where he lived until 1881) he is plain Jansson.
In Utö (an island in the Stockholm archipelago) he was working in the mine. He came from Nor, Värmland 17 Nov 1881. The note says that his certificate on moving into the parish notes that he hs been given another certificate to report for military screening (everyone had to) on 7 March 1881. Moves to Nord Amerikas Förenta Stater (North American United States)6 Nov 1882.
AND, in Nor we find him living with his sister Christina ad her family: Nor AI:19 (1881-1885) Bild 484 / sid 475 (AID: v12193.b484.s475, NAD: SE/VA/13389)
He is already in Utö, before moving officially. Sister and family also move to Utö. In 1890 they are living in Risinge, Östergötland:
