This person found by Anne-Lee would have been about the right age (1942-79 = 1863), and he was living in the town of DeKalb in DeKalb county, Illinois at the time of death. It's worth a try to see if he is the correct man.

Last Name First Name Middle Sex/ Race Age Cert # Death County City Date Filed
JOHNSON AUGUST M/W Y-79 0000130 1942-05-07 DE KALB DE KALB TWP - -

This person obtains death certificates for $5, but probably you'd have to pay a bit more because it would be mailed with a higher priced stamp. (84 cents, I think, instead of 39 cents.) It is less expensive to obtain the certificate from her but the cost will of course be higher because you have to convert Swedish money to U.S. money before sending the fee.

The Illinois marriage index isn't even complete before 1900 (although they are almost complete) and the years after 1900 are far from being completed. (Volunteers are working on these indexes.) I've only seen a very few listings after 1900.

Perhaps Anne-Lee is using a different database for marriages in Illinois, but the one from the State Archives doesn't go that late.

Olausson might have become Olson in the U.S., so that shouldn't be overlooked.

Do you have a better address than De Kalb 820 820 might be the house number and DeKalb could be the town. What is the street number? Did that information get lost?

The 1930 U.S. Federal Census shows an August Johnson born about 1863 and living in DeKalb. He immigrated in (or more likely, about)1882 and was a janitor at a piano factory. He was a widower (änkling). His address was 919 10th Street (St) or Court (Ct). I can't be sure what comes after 10th.
