Salomon Bergsten did indeed die of dropsy. There is a short bio in the death notice: Born in Grebo in 1810 to crofter Anders Bergsten and wife Engla Persdotter, Came here with parents in 1816 to the Marcustorp farm environs. After serving [as a farm hand] in Vårdnäs and Åtvid he married  Stina Caijsa Stridbar 1842 and this couple moved here from Åtvid to Sjöberget in 1843. He was blind in his last year. In his marriage he had 4 daughters, all living.
Dropsy was  a very common cause of death in all ages, the diagnoses were usually made by the priest on the symptoms, not the underlying disease. Congestive heart failure being the most obvious, it could also include liver and kidney disease, cancer and acquired heart problems such as rheumatic fever which was common. In this case, maybe there is an inherited heart condition. Daughter Anna Charlotta died in 1931 so she lived a long life, her grave is still in Linköping. Wife Stina Caijsa died June 1, 1901 from brain haemmorhage. If she was not very poor, there should be an estate inventory which may shed light on the whereabouts of Clara. I can have a look when I go to the Archives in Vadstena.

Salomon´s father, Anders Bergsten, was in court in 1831-32 for cutting down an alder-tree in the grounds of the big land owner, Baron JC Adelswärd. Anders made oars or paddles from the wood and sold them. He was sentenced to a big fine and another one for not showing up in court on the first trial. To be exchanged for prison on bread and water in case of non-payment (he probably was not able to pay). There are two long records transcribed at http://www2.ep.liu.se/databaser/bergsting/default.aspx.  Type Bergsten where it says Efternamn, probably you can translate at least some text using Google translator.

Perhaps Johanna met Aron via the friend who had already met her sister, she came out a year earlier. Mail order brides were not uncommon, Johanna may have got a letter from her sister lining out the prospects. To homestead you need a wife, in Sweden these were the famine years and she did not have a job at the time. So, being a farmer´s wife in America, in a farm that must have seemed as big as Baron Adelswärd´s estate to her was a good future.
