The island of Hemsö, is it on the river of Ångermanälven ?  
Is the village of Svanöbruk on Hemsö, or is Svanöbruk on a different island close to Hemsö?  
(If it's a different island- what would be the name?)
 
I don't follow your reference to Ulander originating from Utanö, does Ulander have a meaning other than as a surname?  And would my greatgrandfather refer to himself as Andersson from Ulander?
