Hi all, I think we have to think about WHY these church books where written (am I kicking open doors again?). It was not at all for us ;-) and not even for the contemporary. It was for the priest to control the people in the assembly. How many, where are they...how do they live and morally act. These books where only written for the personal of the church, and the priest and the overclockers knew nearly all...and the spelling rules where non or near to non, write as it sound. I guess people up to 1850 or... where more supervised... and called in every Sunday for visitation and information... than NSA ever will be able to. Therefore it was not very important to spell a certain name exactly as the person himselfe wanted...and he mite have been illiterate. Or am I wrong,someone more experienced in church books...?
