Hello Bill, I do not think that Johns name is cross out, that is to make a different - apart - from the notice above, that say who the owner of the farm are (can not read that clearly). John seams to be a tenant. He was born in Hessleby = Hässleby (Jönköpings län).
About Johan August it says “a.b. 17.1. 74” and “kasserad 19 (13)/4 73” i.e. he was absence 17.1. 74 and rejected (for the army) (18)73, he moves to page 53 in (18)77, he is named “Häll” (or Hall) as well as he's fathers second surname.
