Parish: Loshult Residence: Kjellstorp (Källstorp) nr. 1 County: Kristianstad [color=0000ff]o[/color] Gustaf Johnsson b. March 19, 1843 in Källstorp, Loshult. He was a torpare* and a shoemaker - disappeared** about 1893 and his whereabouts were still unknown in 1910 (census) though he was believed to be dwelling somewhere in Norrland (northern part of Sweden). Married Aug 26, 1865 in Osby to: [color=0000ff]o[/color] Pernilla Carlsdotter b. June 22, 1846 in Osby, Kristianstad county - dead Jan 25, 1928 in Källstorp nr 1, Loshult, as a house-owner and a widow. Cause of death: weakness due to old age. Children: [color=0000ff]1.[/color] daughter Mathilda b. Oct 26, 1865 in Källstorp, Loshult - dead there Aug 31, 1871 (cause of death not given). [color=0000ff]2.[/color] son Sven b. Oct 13, 1867 in Källstorp, Loshult - moved to Anundsjö parish, Västernorrland county, 1889. [color=0000ff]3.[/color] daughter Christina b. Jan 8, 1871, in Källstorp, Loshult - moved to Björna, Västernorrland county, 1890. [color=0000ff]4.[/color] daughter Manilla b. Apr 8, 1873 in Källstorp, Loshult - dead June 11, 1954 in Örkened, Kristianstad county. Married 1898 to Karl Johan Sjöstedt b. Dec 2, 1872 in Örkened. Children: d. Hulda Martina b. Sep 3, 1901 in Örkened, d. Hildur b. Feb 28, 1907 in Lincoping,Canada, s. Bror Helge b. June 16, 1909 in Loshult, d. Syster Heldina Ingeborg b. Oct 18, 1911 in Loshult. This family was listed as missing in Loshult 1906-1908 while Tilda's firstborn child Helga was taken care of by her grandmother Pernilla - obviously Per and Tilda spent at least some of that time in Canada. Per Jönsson emigrated to America in 1911 and his family, Helga included, followed him in 1914. [color=0000ff]7.[/color] son Emil Gotthard b. Dec 30, 1879 in Källstorp, Loshult - ran away to America in spring 1904. [color=0000ff]8.[/color] son Axel Wilhelm b. Nov 21, 1881 in Källstorp, Loshult - moved to Ask parish, Malmöhus county, in May 1899 and worked there as a farmhand. He was supposed to move to Malmö Garnisonsförsamling in Nov 1899 but is not found there. Found in census 1900 as a hussar of Skånska husarregementet (Scanian Hussar Regiment) in Helsingborg. In 1910, Axel returned to his mother in Loshult, and worked at the railroad until spring 1912 when he was noted as having run away to America. [color=0000ff]9.[/color] daughter Oliva b. March 28, 1884 in Källstorp, Loshult - moved to Höör 1904. [color=0000ff]10.[/color] daughter Anna Heldina b. Nov 30, 1889 in Källstorp, Loshult - dead there May 8, 1890 (cause of death not given).
Axel and his brothers went by the name Gustafsson that was their genuine patronymic (Gustaf's son). As a hussar Axel added Wendin to his patronymic.
* There is no exact translation of torpare into American (and Canadian?) English as the torpare form of employment is unknown over there. Roughly, a torpare was a farmer/farmworker who rented a small house (= torp) and a piece of land, and paid the rent by working for the owner a fixed number of days/year.
** The national registration was managed by the national Swedish Church. So, if you intended to move from a parish to another (or to emigrate) you had to inform the parish clergyman where you were going, and when. Then you got a moving-out certificate (to bring with you to the clergyman of your new parish). Quite a great number of Swedes moved away without doing that, and they were listed as runaways and missing members of the parish they had left.
