Dödsrunor över några svenskamerikaner i Iowa.  
Jag har bl a fått dessa uppgifter från en forskar-kollega i Iowa. Har även flera andra som jag måste  renskriva och kommer att dela med mig av.
Dessa gamla urklipp är ur lokaltidningar, tyvärr har jag ej namnet på dem.

Urklipp 5 januari 1934:
 
PETER ERICKSON
Peter Erickson, age 78 years, died at Mercedes, Texas, Friday night after a short illness.       He is survived by his wife and son Chas. H. Erickson and grandson Chas jr.; two brothers and one sister of Long Beach, Calif.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at three o'clock in the Statler mortuary.
Mr. Erickson came to this country in 1868 from Jemtland, Sweden. He settled in Liberty township, Cherokee county, Iowa. On dec 20, Mr. and Mrs. Erickson celebrated their golden wedding anniversery. He had been a resident of this city for fifteen years, moving here from Iowa.
Pallbearers were Alden Wade, Harry McNell,Ernest Drefke,Julis Olson,John Peterson & John Norlander.

MRS. JOHN ERICKSON
Lucia Olofson was born in Hovermo, Myssjo, Jemtland, Sweden, Dec 13,1842.She came to Amerika in the summer of 1877 and was married to John Erickson Nov. 2, the same year. Settled on a farm in Liberty township, Cherokee county, in which  place she made her home until she passed away June, 8, 1930 in the age of 87 years, five month and 23 days.
She is mourned by her son Edward Erickson and daughter Mrs Adele Johnson, two granddaughters Gladys and Lucille Johnson,  son-in-law  A. R. Johnson, togehther with many other relatives and friends. She was a member of the St.Jacobs congreation in Liberty township , which later united with the Carmel Lutheran congreation at Marcus. Two children, Erik Olaf and Ida Elizabeth preceaded her in death, as did also her husband, who was summonded by death on Feb, 18, 1923. She was one of the pioners of the township, experiencing the hardships and privations of the earlier days and later the developements of the community.  She was a thoughtful and loving mother, always mindful of the welfare of her family and the community at large. During her declining years and failing health  she has been tenderly cared for by her son who did every thing  to comfort her at all times and in minister to her every want, denying himself many pleasures for the make of his mother.  
Her daughter  and granddaughters have also been of great help  and comfort to her in the tender care they have given at such time that they could spare from their own homes. She has steadfully manifested her faith in her Lord and Savior, of whom her life has been a testiminy in her desire to  serve Him. May her memory long be cherishial  among us.

LEWIS RESENE.  ( Louis Res?n)  
Lewis Resene, 87, an old-time resident of Liberty Township who lived at Cleghorn for many years, died at his home Wednesday morning.
Mr.Resene was survived by one of his sons, Oscar, who lives near Meriden  and six daughters; Mrs Albert Kinzel, Mrs. Clarence Booth, Mrs. Will McIntosh, Mrs. Ethel Olson, all of Cleghorn, Mrs. Kerney Larson of Primghar and Gertude.
Funeral services for Lewis Resene, who died at his home at Cleghorn Wednesday morning will be held at Friday afternoo at 1:30 o'clock  at the Presbyterian church at Cleghorn. Burial will be made at Liberty Cemetary.

Uppgifter ur JÄMTEN 1928:  
År 1869 emigrerade Louis Res?n m fam. från Bjärme och han var bland de första nybyggarna i Meriden, Cherokee county, Iowa. Ungefär samtidigt med honom kom Elias Enocksson m. fam från Bledäng, Olof Enocksson m fam. från Vij, John Olofsson från Åsarna, Karin Strandberg från Sinnberg, Staffan Ivarsson från Fåker, familjen Malmberg  från Näs, Erik Olofsson m fam från Hallom, John Eriksson från Ångron och hans hustru Lucia  från Hovermo. Av dessa var alla, utom Louis Res?n och Lucia Eriksson, döda år 1928.
10 miles väst om Meriden vid järnvägen låg stationen Marcus som grundades 1876.

Enligt  Liberty Township Census 1900 bestod familjen  Resene då av:
Resene,  Louis född i Maj 1846
Hustrun: Martha f. juli 1856  
Barnen:  Oscar f.okt. 1882
         Lena  f.sept.1884
         Emma f.aug.  1886
         Rosa  f.nov. 1888      
         Willie f.dec.1890
         Ethel  f.apr.1896
         Agnes f.aug. 1897
         Mertil f.apr.1900
 
Enligt uppgifter från Liberty Cemetery  så dog Louis/Lewis år 1933, hustrun  Martha år 1904.  
Barnen: Willie (William) dog 1918, Oscar dog 1972.
Louis & Martha hade även en son David f. 1892 -som dog 1893 och en  dotter Luella f. 1894 och hon dog 1895. Alla dessa är begravda på samma begravningsplats.
Om de övriga barnen vet jag inget idag.
 
Undrar så vem denne Louis Res?n var? Finns det fortfarande släktingar i Bjärme? Till hans dödsruna finns ett foto -tagit i yngre år: han är en mörk, hårfager man med vackra, mjuka drag. Ser sydländsk ut. Tyvärr har jag ingen scanner, men jag tror inte att bilden skulle bli så bra via scanner eftersom urklippet är en kopia av ett tidningsurklipp.
