Oh wow, this is FANTASTIC! I wish I had this 4 or 5 years ago when I first started researching the case. The Mad Trapper was said to have grown up in North Dakota, so I suspect his parents may have emigrated around the 1880's or 1890's. I always suspected his last name was really Nilsson or Nilsen or Nielsen. With a thick accent, it would have come out as "Nelson". I will pour over this information next week when I get back home. Thanks!
