Hello Victoria,
the Swedish word "dragon" was commonly used for a soldier on a horse that fought on the ground. Umeå regiment in the north of Sweden is known as "Blå dragonerna". Blue was the colour of their coats.
But the issue with what he really was, can be solved by looking on the name of the regiment. Is it "kavalleri" (cavalry), was he surely a soldier on a horse. Was the regiment "artilleri" or "infanteri" was he not.
