Correct, when a person stops paying the tax they are not required in the tax record.
My father in law have a contract from his great great something mother. It is a very detailed description of the obligations of the son towards his parents, after purchasing the farm. It says exactly how many pikes and herrings, clothes, milk etc. she must have every year. It also says that she must be taken care of when she can't manage her self.
The agreement ought to be found in the häradsrätt protocolls the parish belongs to. I can't say how it is presented but it can be tough reading. Maybe someone else on the forum can give you help to make the search easier.
