Hello to all. I came across this website to see what information there might be about Blekinge. I am looking for my ancestors, specifically a great grandfather, named August Peterson born November 19, 1872, who only said he came from some place called Hemso (Hjemso?), within Blekinge. I've entered his name into various databases, but no luck yet. I have emailed the Archives and am awaiting a reply to my request for help. In the meantime, I've really liked reading through your website! I'm hoping to someday visit Blekinge province. Any suggestions or friendly correspondence is welcome! Happy Holidays!

Hi Marian and welcome to our site.
As far as I know there isn't any location in Blekinge called Hemso. Most likely it is Hemsjö in Kyrkhult parish, perhaps Hjälmsa (earlier Hjelmsa) in Bräkne-Hoby parish or maybe Holmsjö in Sillhövda parish. There are also two parishes Jämshög (earlier Jemshög) and Jämjö (earlier Jemjö), but I don't think it is any of them. If you make queries about your Swedish ancestors it's important that you provide as much information as possible. Date of birth, marriage, death a.s.o. If you have any idea about when he/she left Sweden that would be a great help. Information about parents, spouses and children might give us hints to solve your problems.
