Lehmä in Finnish means 'cow', and in s´Swedish 'ko'. Though, I am not sure Lehmoinen is related to lehmä. The sources for genealogy in the 1500s and 1600s are generally different types of tax rolls and sometings court documents.
There is quite a lot of research on the old Finnish immigration in Värmland.
