Carl Emil is actually born on March 11, 1880 according to the parish book for Dunker (AI:24 page 125). He moves with his grandfather when he becomes a church warden, then leaves to work as a farmhand in various places. In 1899, the last year of scanned books, he is tranferred to socken skrifde i.e. he has left the parish without a certificate to an unknown place. There is a small note in pencil, written by the vicar: En slyngel which means that he is considered a rascal. He is called Hellsberg in the books but my have changed his name when joining ship.
He does sound a likely candidate for Charles Emil.
He was born outside wedlock to Anders Hellsberg´s daughter Maria Mathilda (born 1857 in Dunker), he was her second child without a father.
