Katarina parish is in the part of Stockholm city called Södermalm. Today it's regarded as centrally located, in the mid 19th century it was still quite rural. Södermalm is really two words: söder which means south and malm which means commons - and in the case of Stockholm, suburb. So Södermalm is the southern suburb; suburb meaning outside the city walls (or, since this is Stockholm - the Venice of the north - not on the island where the city proper was located). In suburbs like Södermalm (there is also Östermalm, the eastern suburb and Norrmalm, the northern suburb) workers and also farmers lived; rich city people had farms there, both for recreation and for providing their city larder with fresh food.
So Tjärhovsgatan (modern spelling) is not in a village, it's in Stockholm, and right behind the Katarina parish church. The street is still there - thouigh shorter than it used to be - and an apartment there would today fetch quite a large sum...

Katarina kyrka is the parish church just north of Tjärhovsgatan. It was built in 1656-95 (money problems), burned down in 1723, was rebuilt in 1724 and again burned down in 1990, was rebuilt and reinaugurated in 1995 (it still looks like the old church).
