Harriet-thanks for the information. The word is similar to the old English word 'shrove', used in Shrove Thursday.
Christina - That is too much to ask. I thought it described Johan as 'fran' somewhere that I could not make out. I will try tracking down some of the witnesses at the childrens' baptisms. I couldn't see the older children in the birth records, so I assume the family moved from elsewhere.
