Hi Barry, When I face a situation as you mention, I usually use the last known name in the “head” of a Family group sheets or a pedigree chart. The other names I mention in comments. For example my grandfathers father was born as Nils Magnus Magnusson Appelgren (= applebranch) (1803-1884) and son of gardener. When Nils became a soldier he got a new name Palm (as in Palmtree). He wore that name for the rest of his life. I my material I write him as Nils Magnus Magnusson Palm but also mention him - with source - as Nils Magnus Magnusson Appelgren.
